I'm guessing they mean catching dealerships setting their own vehicles ablaze to claim insurance money.

I don't see that happening really though, sadly in my locale, these stupid jellybean caskets are selling and there's more clogging up the roads by the day.

...but investigators are exploring multiple causes, including arson.

I think it's quite telling that they're likely considering the strong possibility that these wonderous marvels of cost-cutting may have just spontaneously lit themselves ablaze without help, at rest, in a parking lot.

For a majority of other vehicles, that'd be an absurd conclusion. But Teslas contain a baffling amount of greed-motivated engineering and numerous fire incidents. It isn't talked about enough and I see more of these things by the day. There has to be some kind of "reputation management" going on.

Either way,

remember kids! If you see someone setting an unoccupied swastikar ablaze...No you didn't.

I've been seeing "comfortable" a lot, but I think honestly it's less comfort and more confusion. I know it's popular to portray us all as lazy, drinking our Big Gulp slushies and watching sportsball, but that's not the whole picture.

We all know it sucks, we might call our reps, our friends might go wave some signs...but ultimately we're culturally unaccustomed to organization, and that part cripples meaningful resistance. As the commenter below me stated, "lack of civic culture" and "hyper individualism" nails it.

Okay, we all want different things, we all struggle at wildly different randomized shifts because most of us are one missed paycheck away from disaster, how do we know who our friends are? No no, not the "Yeah man, that sucks lol idk." friends, the ones who will actually fight with you?

Consequently, we're suffering a massive lonliness epidemic where a lot of people not only have very little civic ties, they don't even have a network of reliable companionship! A lot of this is simply thanks to suburban dominance and nowhere left to meet that's not charging admission.

Not surprising, seeing as how the entire party is based around a violently enforced sitcom-esque vision of an eternal 1950's.

Exactly. Because how can you really punish people at that level? You're not throwing them into federal lockup or something right? Lol

But at the same time, it's ridiculous how much an unknown intel officer would be absolutely ruined by some of these mistakes, but an elected official can do whatever they want and it pretty much comes down to

"Oh, whoopsie. Even if I did admit to any of that...good thing I have all this clout!"

I remember being told once that we don't court marshal / jail high ranking officials like that because it would be "embarrassing to the country", and that never made sense to me. Wouldn't a fair application of the law signal to the world that we don't take shit and we're reasonably civilized instead of some corrupt crumbling empire? (Yes, I'm being rhetorical lol...)

High salary? I thought at this point most of their fighting force is getting paid in "Not going back to that gulag for those heinous things you did to people back home."

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 9 months ago

Where do you find people deranged enough to do this to other human beings without any rational explanation?

It seems like "everyday sadists" are attracted to positions of petty authority, but it appears to be a requirement to be some kinda psycho to be offered the job at the border.

How many people oversaw this? How many questioned it? How many said nothing?

Woah, that's insane, thanks for adding that.

So basically "You have these rights. . .unless you live within 100 miles of somewhere populated" basically...

Just a reminder to fellow Americans even, that this crap has been going on way too long before this point. There's a rather huge area around our borders dubbed "Constitution-free zones".

Yeah, the "sworn to uphold" types are funny-quiet when it comes to "We can do whatever we want, cry about it." Within 100 miles of ANY land or coastal border.

Americans and visitors (God be with you both), might be wise to get a cheap "travel only" phone with only the bare-necessary logins and information on it, as they move about. Don't bother with your laptop if you can help it.

Don't anticipate basic encryption to do anything against this either. (Although , YES, DO ENCRYPT!)

People have been detained and coerced into unlocking their phones so agents could basically just dump the device to a drive and look through whatever they want.

(No, simply deleted files are not unreadable unless securely wiped, and evidence of wiping your phone beforehand would probably lead to more questioning.)

Within 100 miles of the border of the "land of the free", you have no say in this, and if you try to muster up the courage to resist in the "home of the brave", you'll just face further punishment.

It's unlikely you will get stopped for this purpose unless you have a certain profile-of-the-week or whatever they're looking for, but it's best to keep this in mind.

non-white, non-rich person

And for those wondering, that's definitely an "AND" filter and not an "OR" filter. Lol

That was my thought...

"Somehow they got the Plex app installed..."

Jellyfin somehow works on freaking Roku, even, and WELL. Just give the URL to connect to, they pick a profile, and boom, "Netflix who?".

(Also, unlike Netflix, it's not BOMBARDING my PiHole with a gazillion telemetry requests per freaking second holy crap NF calm down. It's a treat when I have something I want to watch on my Jellyfin drives lol.)
