There's an open issue for migration script blockers on the codeberg. It looks like there might be more movement on that front now that 1.1 has been released.

I put together this short list of benefits Piefed offers to regular users in response to one of our members at slrpnk asking about our future migration to it.

There's this handy list of online games with anti-cheat that are compatible with Linux. The majority isn't supported, but some major titles are, surprisingly.

It doesn't bode well. Honestly I fear at some point in the future, if these countermeasures can't keep up, small sites may need to close themselves off with invite-only access. Hopefully that's quite a distant future.

That's actually a major plot point in Cyberpunk 2077. There's thousands of rogue AI's on the net that are constantly bombarding a giant firewall protecting the main net and everything connected to it from being taken over by the AI.

The exact effect of these chemicals is still not known. Microplastics seem capable of limiting crop yields, so that's certainly a horrific issue combined with reduced yields from climate change as well. But chemicals in general, as horrific as they are, are not quite an existential threat capable of completely destroying our ability to grow food.

Current farming practices depleting topsoil is a bigger threat to food production than chemicals, generally, except for pesticides likely causing the collapse of the bee population, which is an existential threat.

PFAS is a massive problem certainly worth tackling, but as bad as it is, I don't think it's an existential threat with a very short time window to prevent devastation of the species like climate change is.

Theoretically there's no reason we can't tackle both problems at once, but personally I would advocate pumping as much resources as humanly possible into preventing climate change first, if that's the only way politicians will deal with it.

I don't think it's comparable. Climate change is far more dire and time sensitive.

I'm sure that explains some of them, but a good amount of tankies are people who grew up and live in the west, with no real connection to Russia other than their texts glorifying the USSR.

In their case, I think when they began to become disillusioned with western governments, they unfortunately hadn't developed enough skill in critically investigating sources of information that is critical of capitalism, and more importantly, become involved in a ML group, which gave them a sense of belonging.

Unfortunately, most ML groups require a continued belief in their selected holy texts and approved histories to continue participation in the group, much like a cult. This is a tremendous motivator to ignore credible information critical of the group's core texts, as no one wants to lose access to their tribe, or lose their friends by being branded a traitor who fell for the 'shitlib' propaganda, thus become an ostracized 'shitlib' themselves.

I used to think there was more to it, but it really is as simple as "They're the enemy of the west? Then all of the horrible things they do must be western propoganda, and their own state media is 100% truthful! Woo! You go Russia! De-nazify Ukraine!"

That they are allies with China and North Korea probably helps further legitimize that belief.

It also really helps that any information about those countries that conflicts with their preexisting views is immediately rejected as propoganda, no matter the validity of the information. Similar to a cult.

There would be no real incentive to take my potatoes, since you already have your needs being met.

But if you decided you wanted to steal my personal property anyway for giggles, especially under threat of violence, I would likely tell the neighbors or community we both live in what you're doing, and you may be shunned from the community.

If you attempt to commit violence against me, I could defend myself, and call upon a community defense group to help, similar to how Rojava does it.

I think you'd be surprised how uncommon that sort of behavior would be under what would effectively be a semi-post scarcity society. A person living in anarchist Catalonia during the revolution described how odd it was after they abolished money, and people had the option of simply taking more than they needed. But he described how quickly people adapted to it, and began only taking what they needed, as they became assured they would be able to get more when they needed it, and didn't want to deprive soneone else.

There's quite a repository of archeological evidence that the style of society I'm describing was once the norm until fairly recently in human history, showing us that our current mode of existence, where dominance hierarchies and artificial scarcity rule, is not a deeply rooted or unchangeable aspect of human nature, but in fact an aberration from the norm.

You can read more on that aspect in the book The Dawn of Everything, by David Graeber and David Wengrow. Highly recommend it.

Humans are astonishingly cooperative with eachother in a post scarcity environment, but there have been few opportunities in the modern era for that to come out and flourish, as otherwise capitalism wouldn't be able to perpetuate itself.
