Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's literally been heading this way since Reagan, if not since Eisenhower. And before that? Honestly, the USA has always been a shitshow that lied about it's own brutal, racist, bloodlust filled history. I'm not sure there was ever going to be another outcome other than this.

Maybe it's better this way, as fucked as that is to say, considering how many US citizens will suffer.

But on the flip side, our taxes paid for making other countries suffer just as much for decades and decades now. Two wrongs don't make a right, but I can't see the countries who have suffered under our thumb for so long and whose histories have been drastically changed due to our intervention (Chile, Iran, just as two off the top of my head examples, there are many, many more) having much sympathy for us.

Be careful out there everybody. I still want to hope for the best, but the time for change was before people like me were even born. I'm in my forties.

Something like 80-90% of corporate servers are Linux. (That's big business, not even just big tech)

Sometimes I think Open Source is unintentionally the largest transfer of wealth generated by volunteers from the working class to the wealthy in history. The corporations get off the shelf software they can run for free and they don't have to pay a license for and they make money using it.

I use it just for myself mostly to look at my listening habits. When I was younger I used last.fm to find new artists and talk to people who had similar interests and took their suggestions. These days its just to keep a log of my music listening.

Also, I have noticed a pattern of listening to less music for myself and being a lot more deferential to my partners when I am in a relationship over when I am single. This year is 20 years since I started using last.fm and part of my goal this year is to listen to more music than I have listened to yearly over the past 20 years. 2005 was my highest listening year ever, and while I'm not on pace to break that record, I'm on place to come close to it and shatter every other year in between.

Anyway, that's just a me thing, it's helped me feel like myself again, re-embracing really enjoying music in a way I have not over the past 16 years of being with two different partners (one for 2 years, another for 13 years). It's like a celebration of 20 years of loving music and coming back into my own and becoming more me again, and less codependent on others and letting them drive the music.

What about actually self hosting on a local server? When I think self-hosted I don't imagine having to go to someone else's website.

I would just be happy with being able to make eggs and sperm from stem cells so it doesn't matter what kind of pairing you have you can make babies if you really want to. Two ciswomen, two cismen with a surrogate, cisman and transwoman with a surrogate, ciswoman and transman, and so on.
