I almost have the same first and last name as a known and jailed killer. A few letters off, but pronounced the same. Close enough that people make mistakes. When the thing happened, I got a ton of angry hatemail on various social media from people who couldn't tell the difference. I started using my middle name more everywhere to distinguish myself.
It was years ago now, but I still need to pull out my ID every now and then when someone thinks I'm trying to be funny.
Interestingly enough, I also got messages from people that were like "Damn, sucks to have that name right now. I'm sorry you must be getting so much hate from idiots. Don't let them get to you." which actually helped a lot.
I'm used to it now after all this time, but a support group like that could have been really helpful at the time.
