Yeah it takes a while to season the tray I'm not going to just wash it off.
Seriously, I found out my in laws hate it because "it's so hard to clean". Turns out they deep clean it after every use.

I'm going throw something out there. Should people who own firearms be required to have some kind of insurance (like car or home owners) on case of accidents or theft? Also I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
Probably harder to get than a driver's license.

Manuls aren't super hard, but there's definitely a learning curve you can't avoid. Since you'll be in a new country you'll have enough going on and don't want to add to any stress, I would really recommend renting an automatic.
Would you be able to post some more details? Are you using Wifi or cellular data? When your phone fails is there a specific error message? Could you post the jellyfin log where you see the attempts? Are the macbook and appletv using wifi or ethernet?
