Good idea. Let's just do what the fascists are doing. That'll show them!

Solipsism is definitely one way to look at it.
Unfortunately, this seems to be something that might be changing in the future. Google isn't going to be open source with android development anymore.
The assurance that no matter how much they mess up, they will have government backing.
This might partially answer your question: https://github.com/ollama/ollama/issues/5186.
It looks like the answer is, it depends on what you want to run as some configs are partially supported but there's no clear cut support yet?
Source-available isn't the same as free and open-source. You might not be able to distribute or modify as you like to the former and may have any sort of license provisioned with further restrictions.
I'm sure it would persist even after an event of malicious activity. It may just turn out like email with servers needing to be added to an allowlist at worst and more moderation. I think scalability might be the limiting factor at some point though and as a result we could end up with several disconnected islands of server clusters instead of globally meshed servers.
We're clearly not from the same countries, but I think this discussion stems from the recent political actions in the USA. In that instance, yes birthright citizenship is the most common method of citizenship and would have severe consequences by changing the law arbitrarily.
The world's a fucked up place, and birthright citizenship probably isn't the best way to go about things (neither are borders in general but that's a tangent), but I don't think removing rights before a better implementation is in place is the best way to go about things. More people get hurt this way, obviously, and we lose sight of what the actual point of this was. Not to mention it's easy for fascism to take root when you can more easily say who gets to be a citizen.
It does a few techniques depending on the type of network and security obstacles. They posted an article on it that's interesting.
I'd also check out pangolin or headscale like others recommeded though since you're already looking to self-host.
Don't give them ideas!
You're right. It is easy to make these comments but it's also a cautionary tale. It's becoming increasingly difficult to use something within a "walled garden" but also retain ownership/access of it yourself.
Just having an external HDD for a backup goes a long way.
