Hacking into the mainframe of course

Trade deal only once India ends Russian oil imports, says U.S. Commerce Secretary; India, U.S. are “not that far apart” on a deal, will be resolved in a few weeks, says Mr. Gor, emphasises Modi-Trump friendship

Getting India to stop buying Russian oil is a “top priority”, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor told U.S. Senators at his confirmation hearing on Thursday (September 11, 2025), indicating that despite a recent U.S. outreach to India to restart trade ties, Russian imports will continue to be an issue.

Mr. Gor said that Mr. Trump had made it “crystal clear” that India would have to end all imports of Russian oil, which make up about 35% to 40% of India’s intake.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also said that trade negotiations would be resolved “once” India stops buying the oil, suggesting this was a pre-condition for any deal.

‘Resolution in few weeks’

“Getting India to stop buying Russian oil is a top priority for this administration,” Mr. Gor said, responding to questions from members of the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee. “President Trump has made it crystal clear that India must stop buying Russian oil,” he added.

Mr. Gor, who hopes to be confirmed soon, added that India and the U.S. are “not that far apart” from a deal on the 50% tariffs that the U.S. has imposed on India.

“I do think it will get resolved in the next few weeks,” Mr. Gor said, also indicating that Mr. Trump was committed to travelling to India for the Quad Summit, and has invited Indian Commerce and Trade officials to Washington next week to resume talks on a free trade agreement (FTA).

Pre-condition for deal

Mr. Lutnick, who has been more sharply critical of India, said that the U.S. President had called India’s purchase of Russian oil as “nonsense”.

“India has to basically open its market, and stop buying Russian oil,” Mr. Lutnick told reporters in one of a series of interviews he gave on Friday (September 12, 2025). “I think India [FTA], we’ll sort it out once they stop buying Russian oil,” he added.

The comments by U.S. officials come days after Mr. Trump posted that he expected “no difficulty” in coming to an agreement on trade. It is unclear whether he endorsed the statements linking the FTA to Russian oil imports.

In the past few days, two international media agencies — the Financial Times and CNBC TV — have reported that Mr. Trump told European Union leaders in a call that they must impose “100% tariffs” on India and China for their purchases of Russian oil. However, EU trade negotiators and Commissioners currently in Delhi for trade talks have made no comment on the issue. Diplomatic sources told The Hindu that the EU does impose sanctions, but does not weaponise tariffs as the U.S. has been doing.

‘Despite hiccups, unique friendship’

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declined to comment on the statements made by Mr. Gor and Mr. Lutnick.

Government officials have consistently denied any plans to cancel Indian oil imports from Russia, insisting that they will take decisions based on India’s market interests. However, Indian orders for Russian crude have dropped in September. In August, India purchased about 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd), well below the average of 2 million bpd over the past few years.

Mr. Gor said that, despite the Indo-U.S. tensions over the past few months, which he referred to as “hiccups”, Mr. Trump and Mr. Modi have a “unique” friendship. “When the President has been critical of India, he goes out of his way to compliment Modi. They have an incredible relationship,” he said.

Currently I use transmission on my SBC and for the most part it works. But there are certain issues with it that annoy me a lot. The biggest one is that the backend becomes unresponsive to clients at certain points like when it is reserving space for downloading a torrent.

However it is a mature piece of software so it is generally reliable outside of quirks like this. On the other hand porla seems newer so it won't be as mature. Anyone here tried it?

That is not too dissimilar from a person detoxing from food, water and oxygen

What a doozy.

So you don't have to read the whole thing:

The unveiler [to the FBI] of such an insidious subterfuge was none other than Philip K. Dick, himself a legendary science-fiction writer. According to his letter, fellow science-fiction great Stanisław Lem, didn’t even exist, except for as a figurehead for the purposes of disseminating propaganda. He was ‘probably a composite committee rather than an individual’. Dick’s evidence for this denouncement was that ‘[Lem] writes in several styles and sometimes reads foreign, to him, languages and sometimes does not’. And the conspiracy spread further still: ‘The Party operates (a U..S.] publishing house which does a great deal of Party-controlled science fiction’.

Evidently, Dick’s allegations were unfounded. Lem surely existed, and his communist connections were non-existent. He was even active against the PRL’s government, and had been ill-treated by those in power. If Dick’s shadowy cabal of conspirators infiltrating science fiction existed, Lem was certainly not it’s originator. So why, then, was Dick such an ardent believer in his guilt?

In 1973, Lem became an honorary member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, a gesture of ‘international goodwill’ on the association’s part. However, in 1976, 70 percent of the SFWA’s voted in favour of a resolution to revoke Lem’s membership. A very quick dismissal for such a prestigious author, but the reasons for his quick ejection from the organisation are clear – he didn’t seem to regard his honorary membership as any sort of honour. He considered American science fiction ‘ill thought out, poorly written, and interested more in adventure that ideas or new literary forms’ and ‘bad writing tacked together with wooden dialogue’, and these are just a few examples of Lem’s deprecatory attitude towards the US branch of his genre.

Lem, however, considered one science fiction author as exempt from his scathing criticisms – his denouncer, Philip K. Dick. The title of an essay Lem published about Dick is evidence enough of this high regard: A Visionary Among the Charlatans.

The possible reasons they give for Dick's conspiracy alignment:

  • Dick didn't know Lem appreciated him
  • Lem once translated his book but could not or did not pay royalties to him
  • Dick drug usage made him do strange things at point in his life

I have spent a long time trying to figure out why Steam DRM games work fine with wine but not with Proton and umu-launcher. This has bothered me to no end because Lutris is increasingly leaning on Proton and umu-launcher instead of normal wine.

Steam's DRM is minimal and easy to circumvent. I imagine this is intentional. Normally I would just replace the Steam related DLL files in a game with their counterpart from goldberg emulator or gbe_fork and the game would run fine with wine. With Proton however it wouldn't run. From reading the logs it was clear to me that this was related to Steam but I wasn't sure how exactly. At first I thought that because Proton comes complete with Steam's runtime, maybe some Steam DLL file was taking preference over the game's but this is was incorrect.

I have spent so much time trying to understand what the fuck was going on. Even tried reading some brain melting C source code but to no avail. Eventually I found the answer here:

Doesn't Proton does a lot of fuckery to basically bridge all steam call to linux side? I never used it, so my knowledge about that is limited. From a quick look at code, it hijack dll loading code and could be disabled by setting PROTON_DISABLE_LSTEAMCLIENT 1. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/blob/488fb296dda334a1e8555a9dd8f5cbe09be2afe5/dlls/ntdll/loader.c#L2294

This fixed the problem. Using the env variable PROTON_DISABLE_LSTEAMCLIENT=1 allows me run pirated Steam DRM protected game. This is crazy because if you Google "PROTON_DISABLE_LSTEAMCLIENT" there are zero hits for it. Thankfully a gbe_fork contributor was able to divine a solution by looking at source code of Valve's wine fork. So I wanted to document this.

Of course this is not the only solution. You can also use Steamless to rip out Steam's DRM entirely from the game's exe but I prefer using goldberg or gbe_fork because it is easier to do.

  • Tracker's Name: BTSchool

There is that particular Chinese TV show that I always wanted to watch which I will now be able to download. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to fulfill their newbie requirements so I will be kicked out eventually but hopefully I get that show before that.

NEED ASAP

IMDB link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11423784/

All public torrents I have found are dead. Anyone knows a place where I can find this movie in decent quality? (At least 1080p.) Thanks.

Not posting links since I am on a phone but recently Nintendo of America filed a suit against Tropic Haze LLC, the LLC behind said emulators. Yesterday, Tropic Haze settled with Nintendo. They are to pay $2.4 million in damages and have to stop distributing (and maybe working on) Yuzu. Yuzu and Citra git repositories are gone from GitHub.

The tactic used by Nintendo was targeting the monetisation practices by the devs. They had a Patreon with paywalled early access builds. So the "emulation is legal" argument was irrelevant here. They also mention how Yuzu was used to play the leaked ROM of Tears of the Kingdom, the latest overhyped Zelda game.

It is a bit sad we won't be able to play overhyped Nintendo console exclusives anyone through Yuzu. There is still Ryujinx but from my experience it is more resource heavy. Also I don't know about its future. I tried finding if its devs commented on this news but have not come across anything like that so far.

Right now I'm looking forward to watching two movies: "The Boy and the Heron" and "Godzilla Minus One"

Neither is on streaming services or BluRay yet. Which means that good quality torrents (IMO at least web-rip) are not available yet.

Is there a good way of figuring out when a decent torrent is available? I don't mean setting up some service like sonarr/radarr because those seem overkill (though my mind on this can be changed with a persuasive argument). Rather maybe some website I can check? Thanks.

I had to buy this album since I could not find it online. If possible please share it on torrent trackers or soulseek since it is a good album.

I found this but it's understandably low quality since the show is old. I was wondering if it exists in high definition somewhere. Maybe it was remastered on something like that seeing how it is a classic.
