Been to Portland recently. There's plenty of neighborhoods where you can walk around safely. There's one small area of downtown where there's a lot of homeless, and you probably want to stay away from the ICE building for obvious reasons, but other than that it's like any other city.

Some people are just... irrationally afraid of the homeless. Most of them will not try to rob you or even bother you, but it is a good idea if you find yourself in an area like that, to pay attention to your surroundings and not get too close to anyone, just in case they start swinging their arms around wildly or something.

Craigslist still exists though. We could just... bring it back by using it again. As a bonus, it's not an app so it doesn't track you.

They saw a party balloon, panicked, tried to shoot it down with lasers but failed to inform the FAA what they were doing (it might have even been the FAA doing it which is even more hilarious), so the FAA panicked again and shut down the airspace. Just pure incompetence all around.

Are there actual rules about noise in the hallway? If there are, is she aware of them? Is there anyone who could potentially enforce those rules other than you? If there are no rules, then it could just be a cultural difference, and good luck to you trying to enforce your own rules in public spaces. You think it's entirely reasonable to have a silent hallway, but maybe the other lady has never lived in a quiet place her whole life. Maybe she can't see why you would want that at all.

Do you understand how voting works? Each person gets one vote. Do you think I, or anyone else, could have somehow forced the 30% who didn't vote to vote, and not only that but to vote the way we wanted them to? How am I responsible for the choices of people 2,000 miles across the country that I've never interacted with? Do I have any control over the propaganda these people are exposed to?

At any given time, only 30-40% of the US is actually represented by the government. At least 30% of us directly voted against all this. Comments like yours make me feel like you're trying to erase our existence... but I'm sure that's helpful for somebody.

Humans have always understood our experience through stories and myths. Literally every civilization throughout history has them. It's the people who refuse to consume any fiction that I don't understand. Even when a story is entirely fictional, surely there is still meaning in metaphor and juxtaposition and human understanding to be found.

And when California passes regulations, they often end up being adopted nationally, because most companies want to sell their products in the large market that is California but don't want to have to differentiate their product or service for different states. This causes a lot of resentment among the GOP.

This is why healing is so important. They didn't heal, instead they harbored a grudge. It's just like an abused child growing up and abusing their own children. Some people are unable or unwilling to do the work to break the cycle.

A third party delivery service doesn't even need to contract with with the restaurant to sell their food. They can create their own website, food descriptions, and price markups, and the restaurant might not even know they're doing it.

I think most people wouldn't be able to have ANY conversation after four whole bottles of wine. I certainly wouldn't.

The Fall was fantastic. Too bad it's not available anywhere, even to buy.
