Nearly nine years earlier, her husband had been snatched by masked men in broad daylight. The abduction was captured on CCTV and gripped the nation for years.

The high court ruled that the elite Special Branch of the police had taken Raymond Koh, and held both the police and the Malaysian government responsible for the country's first-ever enforced disappearance case to be heard in a court.

The move followed the announcement of a U.S. arms-sale package valued at more than $10 billion that drew an angry response from China, which claims Taiwan as its own.

Beijing imposed sanctions on Friday against 20 U.S. defense-related companies and 10 executives, a week after Washington announced large-scale arms sales to Taiwan.

The sanctions entail freezing the companies’ assets in China and banning individuals and organizations from dealing with them, according to the Chinese foreign ministry.

The companies include Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3Harris Maritime Services and Boeing in St. Louis, while defense firm Anduril Industries founder Palmer Luckey is one of the executives sanctioned, who can no longer do business in China and are barred from entering the country. Their assets in the East Asian country have also been frozen.

The announcement of the U.S. arms-sale package, valued at more than $10 billion, has drawn an angry response from China, which claims Taiwan as its own and says it must come under its control.

Donny’s feeling the heat. Keep the fire going. Let’s make 2026 the year of accountability

President Donald Trump has called on the Justice Department to release the names of all Democrats tied to Jeffrey Epstein, as he called the controversy over the so-called Epstein files a “witch hunt” and a “Democrat inspired hoax.”

“Now 1,000,000 more pages on Epstein are found. DOJ is being forced to spend all of its time on this Democrat inspired Hoax,” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social

“When do they say NO MORE, and work on Election Fraud etc. The Dems are the ones who worked with Epstein, not the Republicans. Release all of their names, embarrass them, and get back to helping our Country! The Radical Left doesn’t want people talking about TRUMP & REPUBLICAN SUCCESS, only a long ago dead Jeffrey Epstein - Just another Witch Hunt,” he added.

The exact proposals have been kept under wraps. But three people familiar with the discussions said they include specific attempts to drive down apartment rental fees and utility costs and compel businesses to be more transparent about pricing. Other suggestions include dusting off a little-used 1960s price-gouging statute and policing new protections for food delivery workers.

Ms. Khan and her team have also studied a 1969 consumer protection law meant to prohibit “unconscionable” business tactics, to potentially target hospitals and sports stadiums where consumers typically have little choice but to pay high prices for products that are cheaper elsewhere, as Semafor previously reported.

They have looked at whether food delivery companies, which wield significant power in the city, are complying with laws that protect their drivers, and whether landlords are complying with a newly enacted law barring many real estate brokers from collecting thousands of dollars in fees.

The trend appeared irreversible. Villages in Romania have been steadily emptying as between four million and five million citizens have left the country since the fall of communism in 1989. Yet, the small town of Varfu Campului has oddly seen its population double in a decade, growing from 3,420 residents in 2011 to over 7,000 in 2021. In this northern town near Ukraine, nearly 10,000 people were registered on the electoral rolls in 2024, but some polling stations recorded just 2% voter turnout during the municipal elections held in June that year. This unusual pattern raised suspicions among the authorities.

In November 2024, several dozen search and seizure operations uncovered the deception: There was no economic boom or baby boom, but instead nearly 10,000 citizens from Moldova, Ukraine and Russia had fraudulently obtained Romanian identity papers, establishing fictitious residences in Varfu Campului, sometimes without the prior consent of property owners. Fake documents, exchanged for bribes, had reportedly been issued for years by civil registry officials from two offices, with the complicity of local residents.

My lawyer recommended I did not post this in the first place, but has since wrestled me away from the computer once I told them I was going to finish the joke anyway.

Rebecca Joynes is currently serving a six and a half year prison sentence

A teacher who was convicted for having sex with two boys, becoming pregnant by one, has been banned from the profession.

Maths teacher Rebecca Joynes, 31, was jailed for six and a half years in July last year after being found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with a child, after sleeping with one pupil before falling pregnant by a second while on police bail.

The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) convened earlier this month via a virtual hearing, which Joynes did not attend, to consider her professional conduct. A panel recommended she be banned from teaching.
