Since multiple communities i moderate are ai related, posts often get anti ai downvotes from people from the wider lemmy.

Something I learned to do that I am now doing with all my communities is this.

Let's say i post an ai image. It get's 5 downvotes by anti ai people who, instead of block the community to not see the content, attempt to attack and force the post downward. Just by doing so, they show their intent is to harm content reach instead of support it and that the community is healthier with them unable to touch it. So I then select each of the 5 downvoters and select 'ban from all moderated communities'. Sounds simple enough, right? And it's sort of power trippy. I don't even bother typing reasons. And eventually the community would be cleansed.

But here's the trick.

Make a post with content matching what is appropriate for your community. Do the normal banning of downvoters. Then edit the post to change the title and then delete and hide it. Then post again the exact same content and title. Again weed the downvoters. Again delete and repost. I call it SpeedCleansing. And at the end of it, you are left with an unattacked post which can finally stay up.

Self-hosting anything that is deemed "content" openly on the web in 2025 is a battle of attrition between you and forces who are able to buy tens of thousands of proxies to ruin your service for data they can resell.

This is depressing. Profoundly depressing. i look at the statistics board for my reverse-proxy and i never see less than 96.7% of requests classified as bots at any given moment. The web is filled with crap, bots that pretend to be real people to flood you. All of that because i want to have my little corner of the internet where i put my silly little code for other people to see.

i have to learn to protect myself from industrial actors in order to put anything online, because anything a person makes is valuable, and that value will be sucked dry by every tech giant to be emulsified, liquified, strained, and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy mesh of learning weights.

I don't speak Chinese so it's a little bit confusing to see this pop up on my feed in GrayJay. Was LeBron James some kind of idol in China?

So I'm using bit warden self hosted and now I'm freaking out about the very real possibility of my passwords getting stolen or lost in a fire. Having passwords on my phone makes no sense.

We need some sort of distributed password manager safety net. Like I keep your passwords safe if you keep mine. But how can I trust you? Can you trust me?

I really liked the point Robert Reich made in #10. If you could only read one thing from the article please read this:

Keep the faith. Do not give up on America. Remember, Trump won the popular vote by only 1.5 points. By any historical measure, this was a squeaker. In the House, the Republicans’ five-seat lead is the smallest since the Great Depression. In the Senate, Republicans lost half of 2024’s competitive Senate races, including in four states Trump won.

America has deep problems, to be sure. Which is why we can’t give up on it—or give up the fights for social justice, equal political rights, equal opportunity, and the rule of law. The forces of Trumpian repression and neofascism would like nothing better than for us to give up. Then they’d win it all. We cannot allow them to.

We will never give up.

And then I think the next most important thing is doing what you can to remove the pillars of support from Trump. He mentions boycotting Twitter and Tesla and other companies that support Trump like Fox News and boycotting advertisers. It's a really great idea to try!

Germany has accused Russia of a cyber-attack on air traffic control and attempted electoral interference, and summoned the Russian ambassador.

A foreign ministry spokesman said Russian military intelligence was behind a "cyber-attack against German air traffic control in August 2024". The spokesman also accused Russia of seeking to influence and destabilise the country's federal election in February this year.

Bulgarian lawmakers formally approved on Friday the resignation of the country's minority government, a day after it bowed to mass street protests and said it would quit, paving the way for talks on forming a new coalition or most likely a snap election.
