The ministerial override power at the centre of Labor’s proposed reforms to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act would not merely give politicians a completely unfettered power to ignore environmental laws in the name of the “national interest”, but enable them to do so in total secrecy.

Watt tried to downplay the national interest override power in his address, describing it as “a specific power, in rare circumstances that are in the national interest, for the minister to make a decision that is inconsistent with the National Environmental Standards. Such a decision would be accompanied by a statement of reasons, which includes the environmental implications of the decision. To demonstrate the rare nature of these decisions, the bill refers to defence, security and national emergencies as the types of situations this power might be used.” But the actual text of the bill demonstrates no such thing, beyond Watt’s casuistry in suggesting that the override power could only be rarely used. New section 157 of the reformed act would enable project proponents to write to the minister for the environment asking for a national interest exemption — correspondence that will rapidly become pro forma for every major project — that would enable the project to be approved even if it comprehensively breaches the environmental safeguards of the act. The minister must respond to such requests within 20 working days.

Better yet, the “statement of reasons” that Watt claims will accompany a decision that waves through a damaging project can be kept secret. After awarding a project national interest status, the decision must be published “together with the minister’s reasons for granting the exemption on the department’s website”. Except, the minister must not publish anything that’s a trade secret, business documents “to which access would, on balance, be contrary to the public interest” or anything “the minister believes it is in Australia’s national interest not to provide”.

Is there anything wrong with taking my ssd with mint out of my desktop and slapping it in an old laptop? I actually tried it and it seems to have booted up perfectly. How does it know what drivers to use automatically? Its pretty sweet that it works this easily.

Can't make this shit up, reality is beyond satire at this point.

This is the same media talking head who argued against Labor's fibre to the premises national broadband network. Who then brown noses NBN execs to get his own house upgraded to Fibre as a higher priority than anyone else.

Copper for thee, fibre for me.

What the hell happened to the federal ICAC anyway. Still waiting for all the politicians who spent billions buying back Telstra's rotten copper to go to jail.

What do you call the belief that God's are just higher beings on other planes of existence while not believing in manmade organised dogmatic religons?

Id like to take my old windows laptop drive and image it so I can still use it in virtual box. For reference its a win 7 install on the drive.

Can I do this only using dd, and making the image an iso, and it will boot? Seems too easy!

I've got a cheap salt lamp with a LED inside and it runs on a 5V wall wart. I think it originally had a USB plug but I cut that off and connected it to an old 5V power supply.

I've never used esp32, but I've been doing some reading and it seems like an esp32-c6 will allow me to do this with ZigBee.

Does this sound reasonable? Are there other options I should consider?

lan Lewis, a spokesman for Take-Two, said the firings were “for gross misconduct, and for no other reason”

Yeah 30 to 40 people who happened to be in the same labour union all independently committed gross misconducs, totally nothing else going on here.

Elio Abou Hanna, 24, was shot and killed by an armed Palestinian patrol in the eastern part of Shatila camp on Saturday night, after inadvertently entering the area while driving home from Beirut’s Badaro neighborhood. Seriously injured, he was taken to a hospital in Beirut’s southern suburbs, where he later succumbed to his wounds. The killing has sparked widespread outrage on social media and across Lebanon.

I have read about so many issues regarding Bluetooth and Linux its ridiculous. Usually its random disconnecting, not auto reconnecting, not disconnecting properly, basically every issue possible. And ive had them too. I would really love it if i could just have my ps4 controller hook up right when I turn it on for example. Or have my shared speaker system actually disconnect when I turn off blnluetooth (it doesnt).

I've mostly only used mint with Bluetooth. Some popos but it had the same issues ofc. Only really used desktops, but also have issues on an atari vcs with mint and Bluetooth, exact same issues my desktop has.

Anyone know some real fixes? This is one of those things that makes it very hard to get people to switch when windows handles bluetooth devices perfectly (in my experience) and linux has just sucked so bad on that front.
