Chinese carmakers will end up as “saviours” of European factories and jobs, in a creeping takeover that will hasten the demise of some western manufacturers, the former head of Peugeot and Jeep maker Stellantis Carlos Tavares has warned.

Tavares told the Financial Times that this fallout over the next 10 to 15 years would happen in part as China’s carmakers, already on the lookout for takeover targets, make further inroads in Europe, building up capital stakes or buying factories on the verge of closure.

France’s Renault has also partnered with Geely in the internal combustion engine business, while Nissan has said its Chinese partner Dongfeng could start producing at its Sunderland plant in the UK.

He has forecast in a newly-published memoir that only five or six carmakers would survive globally, starting with Toyota of Japan, South Korea’s Hyundai, China’s BYD and “probably” another Chinese company like Geely. He also raised questions about the future of Stellantis and predicted Tesla will lose out to Chinese rivals.

Wadephul however signalled optimism about finding agreement with China. “We are committed to ensuring that fair trade with China remains possible in all areas, including rare earths and chips,” Wadephul said.

"We are still ready for this fair exchange and this fair trade, and believe that we will also have partners again in Beijing,” Wadephul said

The playbook is brutally efficient: fabricate a scandal, delegitimise and defund organisations into dependency on philanthropic support, then criminalise their new funding as foreign influence, all while continuing to demand NGOs services for consumer protection and digital rights enforcement that governments refuse to fund themselves.

The epitome of this attack is the creation of a dedicated Scrutiny Working Group on NGO financing within the EU Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee to investigate how certain NGOs have been financed by the EU Commission.

Hi All, my fork of Tempo has had a rebrand, which was a requirement to get back into the app stores as the original Tempo still exists in F-Droid/IzzyOnDroid

Tempus v4.0.7

Attention

This release will not update previous installs as it is considered a new app, no longer Tempo, new icon, new app id, and new app name. Hoping it will not be a huge inconvenience but was necessary in order to publish to app stores izzyDroid

Android Auto Support should be the same as before, however, I was not able to test any of the icons/visuals, so please let me know if there are any remnants of the tempo logo/icon as I believe I removed them all and replaced them successfully.

What's Changed

fix: Crash on share no expiration date or field returned from api
fix: Check also underlying transport
feat: Unhide genre from album details view
fix: persist album sorting on resume
chore: Tempus rebrand
chore: Update Polish translation

Now available via the IzzyOnDroid Repository -> https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.eddyizm.degoogled.tempus

note:

app-tempo* <- The github release with all the android auto/chromecast features

app-degoogled* <- The izzyOnDroid release that goes without any of the google stuff.

As usual, any dev contributions appreciated as I am not actually a java/mobile dev, so my progress is significantly slower than those who do this on the daily.

In particular, any android dev is familiar android auto to help me set up a dev environment

Biggest analysis of its kind finds millions are dying each year because of failure to tackle climate crisis

Rising global heat is now killing one person a minute around the world, a major report on the health impact of the climate crisis has revealed.

It says the world’s addiction to fossil fuels also causes toxic air pollution, wildfires and the spread of diseases such as dengue fever, and millions each year are dying owing to the failure to tackle global heating.

The report, the most comprehensive to date, says the damage to health will get worse with leaders such as Donald Trump ripping up climate policies and oil companies continuing to exploit new reserves.

Governments gave out $2.5bn a day in direct subsidies to fossil fuels companies in 2023, the researchers found, while people lost about the same amount because of high temperatures preventing them from working on farms and building sites.

"What the public doesn’t know is that the fundamental assumption of radiation safety and regulation simply isn’t true. This is the case against Linear No-Threshold."

I found this video getting more interesting the further it went on. No relationship between cancer and radiation? And cancer rates go down for those with radiation exposure? You may be radiation deficient?

This week began with the release of a report titled “Deciding to Win,” claiming to light the way “toward a common sense renewal of the Democratic Party.”

But the first mention of healthcare is so far from reality that the authors might have more accurately titled their report “Deciding to Lie.” The report declares that Medicare for All is in the category of “unpopular economic policies.” The claim is false. But it’s in sync with the corporate sensibilities and wishful thinking of party operatives like James Carville, whose praise of the document appears on its first page.
