Singapore and China have agreed to work together to decarbonise and digitalise shipping routes between the two countries, with the establishment of a national green and digital shipping corridor.

PM Wong, meanwhile, expressed Singapore’s confidence in China’s overall long-term trajectory and development prospects.

MFA said PM Wong reiterated that Singapore has a clear and consistent “One China” policy and is opposed to Taiwan independence.

Under the Singapore-Tianjin corridor, both sides have started joint research on adopting green methanol, a lower-emissions fuel for ships. With Shandong, one of the focus areas is on the exchange of digital information to facilitate port clearances.

Notable majority feel the country is headed in the wrong direction, and only 27% approve of his job performance

Donald Trump’s standing with Hispanic adults has dropped notably since he took office at the start of the year, according to a new poll.

Polling by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research suggests growing unease among a voting bloc that was crucial to his 2024 re-election victory. The October survey shows that 25% of Hispanic adults now hold a “somewhat” or “very” favorable view of Trump, down sharply from 44% in an AP-NORC poll conducted just before he began his second term.

At the same time, the share of Hispanic respondents who believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction has risen from 63% in March to 73% in October.

... because I comment more times in a single day than I normally do over weeks.

(Hoarding meds because I need to make an appointment for a refill, but I can't make myself do that when unmedicated and always get distracted the rare days I am. Hey, if it were rational it'd be considered a personality quirk, not a mental illness.)

“There is nowhere that will escape the wrath of this storm,” said Evan Thompson of Jamaica’s Meteorological Service. Melissa is already blamed for four deaths.

Jamaican officials issued dire warnings Saturday as Hurricane Melissa barrels toward the island, poised to become the strongest storm ever recorded there.

Melissa reached Category 4 status Sunday morning, with maximum sustained winds near 140 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory, warning of "life threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides" in portions of Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic this week.

Melissa is "expected to be a major hurricane when making landfall in Jamaica Monday night or Tuesday morning and southeastern Cuba late Tuesday," it added.

Under the looming threat of war, countries across Europe are bolstering their drone capabilities. As China imposes restrictions on exporting drones and components, Europe and Ukraine have started looking for alternative sources—turning their attention to Taiwan.

[...]

The top export market for Taiwanese-made drones this year is Poland, with export volume climbing nearly tenfold over 2024. Many of these drones ultimately end up on the front lines in Ukraine. More and more European vendors are coming to Taiwan in search of components, with particular interest in motors, batteries, and optical systems.

[...]

Some Taiwanese firms have begun investing locally in Europe. For example, Farada Group plans to establish a joint venture plant in Lithuania, which would become Europe’s largest drone motor production base. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has also launched the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA) to promote cooperation with countries such as Poland and Estonia.

However, industry insiders caution that Europe views drones as a strategic industry and prefers autonomous supply chains. “Joint ventures are only the first step,” one source warned, “and the risk of having shares removed and technology retained in Europe after a few years is high.

[...]

In the long run, Taiwan-Europe security cooperation will extend beyond drones. From Russia’s hybrid warfare to information warfare, Europe increasingly values Taiwan’s experience in countering gray-zone threats. As Shieh Jhy-wey humorously put it, “China can punish; Taiwan can help.”

[...]

A related report says that Taiwan is to launch ‘drone diplomacy’ initiative to aid allies.

[...] The first phase will focus on supplying Taiwan’s diplomatic allies through drone donations to be used in agriculture, logistics, disaster prevention, coast guard, health care and infrastructure surveillance, he said.

The second phase will target like-minded international partners in the Asia-Pacific region such as Japan and the Philippines, Chiang said, adding that supply will include unmanned surface vessels, drones and underwater drones.

In addition, Taiwan will supply Central and Eastern European countries threatened by Russia, including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.

“This demand will focus on military use, especially for the land and battlefield under the threat of Russia,” he said.

Unsurprisingly it has gone viral, capturing both the Ukrainian and the wider global public's imagination.

With 48 children trapped in a shelter in the burning building, it was not the only act of bravery that day, not by a long way.

But few photographs better sum up the growing impact of Russia's full-scale invasion on everyday life, with Ukraine's most vulnerable now bearing the brunt, including children.

"We got the call that there had been an attack on the kindergarten," Oleksandr Volobuev told me. "And, of course, knowing there would be children there, we set off in a state of some anxiety."

As we were walking along the Torrens north east of Adelaide City someone walking the opposite way told us to look out for a couple of koalas. They were pretty stoked and couldn't wait to show their son the photos they had taken.

It took us a while to spot them, they were near the top of what I think was a young tree. It was hard to get a clear picture through the foliage and light rain.

The younger of the two (parent and joey probably?) was very energetic. Really wanted the leaves right at the top of the tree.

Not long after it bucketed down and we got soaked.

For context, this popped up as I went to the youtube homepage. This is absurd. Of course, I have uBlock Origin, so it doesn't matter to me regardless, but there's no way to say no.
