Bleak report finds greenhouse gas emissions are still rising despite ‘exponential’ growth of renewables

Coal use hit a record high around the world last year despite efforts to switch to clean energy, imperilling the world’s attempts to rein in global heating.

The share of coal in electricity generation dropped as renewable energy surged ahead. But the general increase in power demand meant that more coal was used overall, according to the annual State of Climate Action report, published on Wednesday.

The report painted a grim picture of the world’s chances of avoiding increasingly severe impacts from the climate crisis. Countries are falling behind the targets they have set for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which have continued to rise, albeit at a lower rate than before.

I finally got my Linux server set up and got Plex moved over to run in a docker container and it’s fan-fucking-tastic.

My next question is about radarr and sonarr. I worry about getting notices, throttled by my ISP, etc. I have a VPN that I use to manually download content, but would prefer the automated method instead which I understand radarr and sonarr are for.

Would I need VPN to use these for this concern? If I do run a VPN, would I encounter issues with my external Plex access? I do often use it out of the house and have others who connect to my server to stream too. If so, is there a way to configure it to work with the VPN? And if I do, do I need to run it under that all the time? I don’t always get the VPN since there are some months where nothing is worth downloading for me, so why pay for it until I need it?

Test scores across OECD countries peaked around 2012 and have declined since. IQ scores in many developed countries appear to be falling after rising throughout the twentieth century. Nataliya Kosmyna at MIT's Media Lab began noticing changes around two years ago when strangers started emailing her to ask if using ChatGPT could alter their brains. She posted a study in June tracking brain activity in 54 students writing essays. Those using ChatGPT showed significantly less activity in networks tied to cognitive processing and attention compared to students who wrote without digital help or used only internet search engines. Almost none could recall what they had written immediately after submitting their work. She received more than 4,000 emails afterward. Many came from teachers who reported students producing passable assignments without understanding the material. A British survey found that 92% of university students now use AI and roughly 20% have used it to write all or part of an assignment. Independent research has found that more screen time in schools correlates with worse results. Technology companies have designed products to be frictionless, removing the cognitive challenges brains need to learn. AI now allows users to outsource thinking itself.

I can't comment on the veracity of it, but I dont think I've seen this perspective mentioned here before [at least not phrased the same way]. So in any case id like to pass it around

In this video, we dive deep into the complex and controversial story of the Hong Kong protests and the growing Hong Kong independence movement. From the 2019 Hong Kong riots to the 2020 Hong Kong National Security Law, the media narrative has been heavily shaped by Western media bias, leaving out key context. Was it truly about freedom and democracy, or is there a deeper agenda at play?

We explore how the West interference in Hong Kong and China’s policies towards the region have played a pivotal role in escalating the conflict. From the Hong Kong extradition bill to the rise of Hong Kong separatism, we challenge the portrayal of these events and question whether they were truly about Hong Kong democracy or something more politically driven. What role does racial violence and racism play in these protests? How do Hong Kong culture and Hong Kong language debate factor into the crisis?

We also look at the economic collapse caused by the riots, the influence of foreign powers, and how the Beijing Hong Kong policy has stabilized the region post-protests. Don't miss out on understanding the true impact of China Hong Kong stability and why the Hong Kong protests 2020 changed everything for the city.

We also address the cantonese language debate and why it's central to the evolving identity of Hong Kongers, as well as China Cantonese policies that are shaping this cultural landscape.

I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out. I've tried pressing the button even more to fix the issue but even with that it's still getting worse??

I don't know what could possibly be causing this. The only thing I can think of is that women are getting too uppity on account of having too many rights. Sounds bad but I don't know what else I could even try. I already tried pressing the button a bunch of times.

Fortunately, we've found someone to press the button even harder, and who hates women's rights, and best of all, she is a woman so nobody gets to complain about it.

Oh I just realized I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Japan.
