What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
No clue🤷‍♀️

2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
community ban+removed comments.^Theory^

3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
progpol modlog🔗.

4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
Thanks Warl0k3 @lemmy.world for retrieving the deleted comments!
tampermonkey reverse output?

5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
If genocide praxis is “progressive politics,” I want @TokenBoomer@lemmy.world to answer how Islam is a progressive religion.

Note that I allowed Maeve the time to answer if “blasphemous” killings are sanctimonious.

Theory:
It could also be that that lemmy server exploit that soulism.net employs, where as as admin, you can “own” a community, and ban them in your instace, and it federates.

As climate change erases the Louisiana coast, the last two teenagers on Isle de Jean Charles fight to stay on an island that's been in their family home for generations. Feature film continuation of a short of the same name.

the immediate blocker when trying to run this Python project is that a native package deep within its dependency graph won't compile without gcc-12 even though gcc 15 was released in August last year

that's not even targeting gcc 14 which was released in 2024

and to hardcode this expectation without a Dockerfile or some Python-native mechanism to pull in a specific version of a C/Cxx compiler ...

For example, I first heard Suburban Legends - Polyester, so I went to check Suburban Legends and they were just a regular ska band.

What's your "that song was great, I wish the band did more of that" song and band?

I'm over 50 and all I know about Linux is it's mascot is a penguin and I think it has something to do with programming. But I'm trying to learn, do new things, and reinvent myself. Where/how should I go about learning? Or at this stage, should I even bother? I do want to learn, tho

...deleting records could cause big problems. Referential integrity across database tables simply wouldn’t allow it... it would cause a resonance cascade.

So, to get around the problem, a lot of places simply "overwrite" records when they are deleting them. They replace certain fields with garbage so the structure of the data remains, but the human elements are no longer present. At the heart of those "certain fields" are email addresses, the most widely used identifiers on all the web. And that, dear reader, is how we got to this cursed discovery.

I saw a discussion on the internet where someone mentioned that they deleted users in their app by overwriting their email addresses with $somethingRandom@deleteduser.com. Mmm, I thought - I wonder how common of a thought process that is? I bet whoever owns deleteduser.com gets loads of emails!

I decided to check it out, but to my genuine surprise - no one owned deleteduser.com, so now I do.

Hypothetically speaking
