Despite diplomatic relations sinking to a new low, figures from China’s Ministry of Commerce show that Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) into China surged by 55.5 per cent year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2025.

Japan was not an exception. Swiss investment in China jumped 66.8 per cent, British investment rose 15.9 per cent, and the United Arab Emirates recorded 27.3 per cent growth, driven largely by its interest in green energy and the digital economy.

Japan is a member of the RCEP, the world’s largest free trade agreement (FTA), which enables member states to trade and invest more freely within its framework. Now, Japan is leveraging these benefits by investing heavily in high-end manufacturing and R&D within China, its largest trading partner.

Honda, for example, announced a deep partnership in 2025 with Momenta, a leading Chinese autonomous-driving company. Japanese automakers understand that in the age of electrification and intelligent vehicles, walking away from China’s R&D ecosystem risks global marginalisation.

Countries like the United Kingdom and Switzerland, both global offshore financial hubs, are emerging as indirect gateways for China to access Western capital and technology. Saudi Arabia, driven by its energy transition agenda, has also begun channelling capital into Chinese technology and new-energy sectors.

We are already seeing US companies investing in China’s pharmaceutical industry via Saudi Arabia. It is likely that by 2026, more Japanese firms, seeking to hedge against geopolitical risk, will invest in China through subsidiaries or joint ventures based in third countries. What matters here is not where the capital originates, but how it is legally and statistically classified.

As of 2025, China and Switzerland are negotiating an upgrade to their FTA, which officials say could expand cooperation into digital trade and AI. Given China's strategy of channelling foreign investment into specific industries, Switzerland may evolve into a "technology custody centre" in 2026.

Sanae Takaichi’s victory in Japan’s 2026 election presents Japanese voters with a new model of behaviour with a deliberate division of political and economic strategy. Politically and militarily, Japan confronts China with its toughest stance yet. Economically and technologically, however, Japanese firms continue to deepen their ties with China through joint funds and partnerships based in Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or the UK.

By their shameful, spineless stance on the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran, European leaders have doomed whatever remained of their global influence and their pretensions to promote a “rules-based international order.”

In acquiescing in a clearly illegal war of aggression (with only the faintest bleats of protest), continuing to express support for their U.S. and Israeli “partners,” and — incredibly — condemning Iran for retaliating, these governments doubtless believe that they are acting “realistically.”

What makes this so especially ironic is that if the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran drags on, it will divert U.S. and European anti-missile systems from Ukraine to the Middle East, greatly weakening Ukrainian defenses. It will also drive a sustained rise in global oil and gas prices that will greatly strengthen Russia both economically and diplomatically.

The Israeli military has claimed it was not aware of any Israeli or US attacks in that area. Throughout its genocidal war on Gaza, Israel has denied multiple deadly attacks on Palestinian civilians, only to later backtrack when irrefutable evidence emerged, then terming such attacks as “accidental”.

The C.I.A. has given small weapons to Iranian Kurdish forces in Iraq in a covert program that began before the current war.

Pro-American, Iranian Kurdish forces based in Iraq are preparing armed units that could enter Iran, creating a potential new front in an already expanding conflict, according to Iraqi officials and senior members of Iranian Kurdish groups.

The C.I.A. has previously given small arms to the Iranian Kurdish forces as part of a covert program to destabilize Iran, an effort that began before the current war, according to people familiar with the effort.

But in a briefing on Wednesday, Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said reports that President Trump had agreed to any plan for the Kurds to launch an insurgency in Iran were “completely false.”

Chair of joint chiefs of staff and others in classified meeting said Iran is trying to get US to spend its munitions

Top military officials told lawmakers in a closed door briefing on Tuesday that they may not be able to shoot down every Iranian drone being launched against US military installations and assets in retaliatory attacks, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The officials, led by the chair of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen Dan Caine, said Iran has been deploying thousands of one-way attack drones and while they have capacity to take down the vast majority but not all of the barrage.

As a result, the officials said in a classified briefing for lawmakers on Capitol Hill, the US was focused on destroying the launch sites for the drones and conventional missiles as quickly as possible. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive details.

My small bee hotel established in 2021 has been a hit with the local population, usually fully occupied. I see many different native resin, leaf cutter and a few carpenter bees around. Lately, I've been seeing more of these bees or wasps show up. I'm having a great deal of trouble identifying them. Can anyone help me? It has a distinctive round abdomen, single pale yellow ring, and a tail coming out of the torso.

Australia and Canada on Wednesday signed a series of new agreements on critical minerals, Prime Minister Mark Carney said, including Australia joining the G7 minerals alliance.

Western nations have been attempting to diversify their supply chains away from China, which still controls the majority of production and processing of critical minerals, essential for semiconductors and defence applications.

“Earlier today, we signed a series of new agreements on critical minerals, including Australia joining the G7 minerals alliance – the largest grouping of trusted democratic mineral reserves in the world,” Carney said in a speech to Australia’s parliament, on his final day of a three-day visit to the country.

The two countries produce around a third of global lithium and uranium, as well as over 40% of global iron ore.

Let me explain with my current situation. I am 22 F and I currently weigh 305lbs.

I am obese. Morbidly obese.

Even though I have been trying for 5 years at this point to lose the weight on my own. Eat healthier, eat more fruits and veggies, cut out excess sugar, walk more, exercise more, the whole kit and caboodle.

But I still am not losing the weight. I am still very fat. And I am worried that it will cause very serious health problems.

So I talked with my doctor and she told me "We need to get you on a weight loss medication. Let's try Ozempic".

But my insurance told us that they don't think I need the Ozempic so they won't pay for it.

So we tried Wegovy and Mounjaro. But my insurance still rejected our requests.

They're saying because I am young, and I am a diabetic with good numbers, I dont need the weight loss meds and I can just lose the weight naturally.

But ive been trying to and it hasn't been working. So that's why my doctor prescribed me the weight loss med.

Why is this allowed? Why is it that your insurance can deny you a medication, even if your doctor says you need it?

The prime minister’s cautious stance about helping the US against the Tehran regime mirrors that of the electorate

It was perhaps the most attention-grabbing moment of prime minister’s questions. Responding to yet another Conservative salvo about his approach to Iran and how it might affect ties with America, Keir Starmer was direct.

“American planes are operating out of British bases – that is the special relationship in action,” he said. “Sharing intelligence every day to keep our people safe – that is the special relationship in action. Hanging on to President Trump’s latest words is not the special relationship in action.”

And certainly in the last few days, hanging on to and then endlessly, painfully analysing Trump’s ever-changing opinions has become even more of a national pursuit than it was before.
