World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
- Blogsites are treated in the same manner as social media sites. Medium, Blogger, Substack, etc. are not valid news links regardless of who is posting them. Yes, legitimate news sites use Blogging platforms, they also use Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and we don't allow those links either.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

How about white men — who historically have been drawing lines on maps of land that isn’t theirs, colonised, raped and pillaged, which generated the biggest racial wealth inequality in human history — should perhaps stop doing what white men have historically been doing.
It’s okay to be white and say: Iran? No clue, but I hope things get better for those who have it worse than us, but ultimately whatever solution is found, it has to be their solution, not ours.
They have been getting their protests knocked back for years, the regime is ruthless. If there is a path to freedom why should the colour of those who can help matter?
The US are cunts and will likely try to get a pound of flesh, but as it is the flesh is lining the streets.
You’re answering your own question. Because white men never have and never will selflessly offer help to other regimes.
Not to mention, the US is for example the de facto “defence” ally for Australia, but in return they are running pretty secret ops on Australian soil where the Aussies have nothing to say about.
The US right now especially is a totalitarian empire and an incredibly violent nation. This is why I am focussing on the Epstein files, because it would expose the US-Zionist power structure that has been ruling this planet for nearly (or more than) a century. It needs to be brought down, like the Third Reich, dissolved and split up.
The regime in Iran – in part – is so ruthless because of the USA, not despite their help.
Don't equate white people to Americans. We all know they are cunts. Ireland was a huge part in protesting apartheid, which was selfless. Ireland is currently vocal re Palestine as are multiple other EU countries.
You are just a bitter person who can't see past their own entrenched hatred.
Not sure where you think I am bitter.
The US hegemony is supported, tolerated and even welcomed by pretty much any white nation on the face of the Earth.
That doesn’t mean Ireland has done some good stuff, so has Norway and Iceland certainly has shown it to be a beacon of hope when it comes to democratic reform. But Ireland is the place with very beneficial corporate tax schemes predominantly benefiting US companies.
How am I the bitter one with entrenched hatred when you call all Americans cunts? That is so not true. The vast majority of white people are quite nice. But they are also incredibly comfortable, and live so vastly above their means, the majority has become comfortable thinking they are the victim (even though there is nothing to support that when compared against their brothers and sisters anywhere else in the known Universe).
This has in turn created more populist movements and frankly a level of never before seen apathy. This has allowed the MIC of mainly the USA to execute regime change anywhere for the betterment of the US-Zionist empire where ever they please, while this white crowd has required less and less convincing narrative for them to do so (with their tax dollars).
And right now, the people in this thread supporting ‘regime change’ in Iran are just unknowing participants in another destabilisation of a sovereign nation (with its own problems) for the sole benefit of Israel. It’s naive and basically pointless.
If you think it’s okay to mess with another nation that isn’t your own, and you truly think Americans are cunts, then why not topple the half a dozen time accused pedophile president of the USA?
Because I don't live in America and my toppling of him would be what you are denouncing.
I cant wait for his death, it will benefit everyone. If only people would intervene. But you are against that.
I stand by everything I said.
Ok?
Oh you should have said. We cant control other people's fears.
In short, your proposal, is to do nothing while they get killed.
I'm going to ignore your proposal and try doing something, even if not very effective.
Western intervention in regime change will kill far more Iranians than doing nothing. I could be wrong about that, but the West does not have a good track record.
I think it's also important to note that the current Iranian regime took power from the brutal dictator that was installed by western powers who overthrew a democratic government.
I sympathise with the Iranian people who are suffering. I just don't see a way to intervene that won't make things worse.
That’s what you call it.
Generationally, leaving neighbours and others to do their own thing is actually quite hard.
Do what you will. But don’t call yourself an anarchist then either.
And I’m positive that if your main concern is to do something, there is plenty to do in your own country or neighbourhood.
Oh pardon me, high gatekeeper of the anarchist label, for offending thee ever since 2006, whence I usurped that label and filed off the serial numbers too, and used said stolen label to participate in demos, squat a few houses, start an autonomous social center, help out other people with their autonomous social centers, participate in really really free markets, do vegan dinners and picnics, open a freeshop and help run it, and write software that is free and open source - all the time using this label in violation of your highnesses command of only spreading the Official Anarchism (as cast in the Concrete Tablets of Official Anarchism by high-standing and indisputable anarcho-bureaucrats)... and I confess I've written political articles under that false label too, denouncing populism and sometimes promoting sortition. I fully expect your high anarchisticalness to promptly tell me that I have indeed done all this wrong, and my life has been in vain.
More concisely: I don't need your advise to check if something is anarchist. Get off your high horse or ride into the sunset on it.
Hey pot, meet kettle
Anyway, if you’re that easily offended, you should not call yourself something that triggers you when one anonymous internet dweep on his high horse riding in to the sunset calls you out for briefly not being very anarchistic (unless you’re already in Iran now, because borders are a nation-state control mechanism, and you’re protesting side by side with some protesters that need your Eastern-European ass more than the many refugees trying to find a better life in Europe)
Due to the trigger you didn’t really understand what I am trying to tell you, so anyhow, warm regards from here at the sunset.
