Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

There's no double standard, the "socialist" refused to even say he was part of the "left" in the initial interviews while the other candidates had no problem announcing being part of the "left" or "right".
What double standard are you talking about?
They meant how they thought a .ml user called someone a fake socialist when .ml users are also fake socialists usually.
Oh really? Why are they fake socialists? I don't interact much with them
They are tankies. They advocate for communism/socialism but encourage the russian/chinese system. They say they support everyones rights but are constantly transphobic. I could go on.
All it takes to be a socialist is to believe the workers should own the means of production. Everything else is purity testing... Of greater or lesser validity.
Saying the USSR was justified in every single crime might make you a tankie and a shithead but it doesn't make you a fake socialist anymore than opposing slavery makes someone a fake capitalist, even if that's the obvious endgoal of terminal capitalism.
Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Shitty people exist on every political spectrum. (I'm not saying the .ml guys are part of that group, I don't know) As long as they desire a worker controlled economy they are socialists in my book, but might also be transphobes, etc.
Tankies don't encourage the Russian system, Russia is a neoliberal capitalist country not very different from the rest of Europe in terms of economic policy. Some tankies critically support Russia in the geopolitical sphere (stress on "critically") because it stands against the USA (by choice of the USA) and therefore ends up supporting a lot of lesser-evils globally such as Assad and Khomeinei or even some good ones like Ibrahim TraorΓ©.
Also, idk what you mean by transphobic. I have a hexbear account (by all means you'd call them tankies) and it's the most trans-supportive space I've seen.
All the evils are on the same side. Trump and putin are huge pals now. Theres china but they commited countless genocides and are silently ereasing queer culture. The original tankies came from supporting the russian obliteration of the 1956 hungarian revolution. Most communists did not support it but the tankies were too busy nibling on russian dick and/or only believed in communism enforced with violenc, which is a shit take by itself even before you get to the issue of the ussr not being communist. As for transphobes, hexbear encouraged people really heavily to vote third-party, which we all know doesnt work in the usa, and thus basically helped trump who has been a catastrophy for trans rights. Im pretty sure tho hexbear is pretty openly pro-trans so that mightve been just idiocity. On the other hand, ml's literal administrator and owner is a huge open transphobe.
There has not been one genocide in China since the coming to power of the Communist Party of China. You can bring up harsh policy or even police state accusations om Xinjiang province in the past decade (not anymore since the reeducation camps are closed), but no serious organization or analysis calls it a genocide.
China is more backwards in queer issues because they've developed later, but they're most certainly progressing. There is no persecution of gay people, the worst thing you can point to is the closure of a few popular apps last year (with many more remaining open), and there are openly gay hubs in China like Chengdu (colloquially called Gaydu by Chinese genZ on social media) that are growing in popularity and feature drag shows and many elements of queer culture in their night life.
Yes. Hungary, until 1945, was a literally Nazi country. The "revolution" 11 years later had extremely reactionary elements and did not want democracy or anything similar, just some people were mad because they had to pay reparations for the atrocities they did during the war.
No need for homophobic phrases like that, eating dick shouldn't be used as an insult.
Communism is the last stage of socialism. The USSR was socialist, though. It had free and universal healthcare and education to the highest level, it eliminated homelessness and unemployment, guaranteed the lowest levels of economic inequality that the region has ever seen in its history, and had immense advancements in women's rights and worker's rights. It also saved Europe from Nazism and was the main contributor to anticolonial movements in all the global south, including Vietnam, Cuba, China and essentially the entirety of Latin America, Africa and Asia. It was by no means perfect, but making a balance of the positives and negatives, it still comes out as the most emancipatory and progressive socialist project in the history of the world by any metric you want to use.
Regarding your "vote for third party", are you really blaming "leftists who voted third party" for the Trump victory? The numbers literally don't match, take all third party votes and give to dems and they still lose the elections. The democrats lost the elections because they ran a conservative candidate months before the elections, without primaries, promising "the most lethal armed forces in the world" during a US-funded genocide in Gaza.
