Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

haha, the filthy drug addicts are acting silly guys!
... fucking ew.
The opioid epidemic was directly caused by your own healthcare system π€·ββοΈ
My healthcare system? First off, the people living under that system are victims of it. Being addicted to drugs is awful and not something that should made fun of. And second... you don't know me, I'm French, fuck off with your shitty assumptions.
Your/their doesn't really make all that much difference.
Then why is the butt of this joke not the corrupt healthcare system or the CIA distributing drugs as a power play or any other number of angles? If they wanted any depth to the joke beyond "haha addicts" there are dozens of better ways to deliver it.
Edit: on top of that, fent addiction isn't even uniquely American. This clip could just as easily be mocking the people I've seen slumped around Toronto.
Christ, it's a flipping meme. You'd think noone made a joke about addicts before.
Woah, deja vu! I'm pretty sure I've heard this exact same response from shitbag US conservatives
Tell you what, you come up with a joke that pokes fun at the inherent corruption in the US medical system where drug manufacturers, drug regulators and insurance companies conspire together to manufacture a national addiction to opiates and anti-depressants and how that addiction has spiraled into the world's highest rates of opiate abuse and how the citizens of another country don't want this aspect of American life foisted on them at the whims of a dementia addled paedophile. Then boil that joke down into a 5 second video on TikTok and I'll concede the point.
Dress as Luigi.
B-b-but that's not as edgy π
It's really crucial to take jabs at people living a literal hellish nightmare because there's no other way we can get our high minded, avant-garde social commentary across! π
That and the CIA importing heroin on an industrial scale. The point is that opiate addicts are marginalized victims of the same oligarchy that's now threatening them, not the ones in power who actually deserve hatred.
Is the American offended?
I'm French, dipshit.
Well I'm a π₯
The question still stands. Are the Americans offended, because if they are, touchΓ©.
Drug users are not a pawn in your game to own the US. You are making funs of victims of oppression.
It's not us trying to own the us it's the us trying to own Greenland. Greenlanders just showing they don't want to be the "victims of oppression" too.
Poor people suffering from circumstances and ending up addicted to destructive drugs with no way out because they can't afford the help they need, are not the people who want to invade Greenland.
