New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s endorsement of Governor Kathy Hochul for reelection has sparked a backlash from progressives, including some of the mayor’s closest allies.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, endorsed Hochul, a centrist, in an op-ed in The Nation on Thursday, acknowledging their political differences but saying he has "come to trust Governor Hochul as someone willing to engage in an honest dialogue that leads to results."

Mamdani’s decision has prompted criticism from fellow members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), with State Senator Jabari Brisport telling City & State "even Zohran gets it wrong sometimes."
