!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

They really will not be able to. He has fired 75-90% of many agencies' employees. This is going to take decades fix, and every election we lose will extend that.

Not to mention international relations. He's dumped on other nations so much. It will take a VERY long time to repair those relations, if they ever can be.

I've heard so many dumbass red hats crying that the US provided too much to other nations while getting little in return. They're about to find out what we actually were getting in return. If other nations step up their militaries to fill in gaps where the US is abdicating its lead role, we'll have less use for our own and can lower recruitment incentives/quotas. If we piss on trade deals with other countries, they'll work more with China and other world leaders, stripping the US of its influence globally. Worst of all, even if their propagandist of choice have then that info, they are literally too stupid to understand.

They’re about to find out what we actually were getting in return.

This is one of the huge under-analyzed aspects of all this. The US "over" invested in defense and foreign aid, and got virtually all the soft power benefits of a hegemonic power, and by simply setting an upper limit on the worst abuses of imperial overlords, it generally had its allies saying "Thank You" for the privilege, with no particular signs that the bloc was weakening.

If the US is not an accessible market or a reliable guarantor of security, or if (for fuck's sake) it's threatening the territorial integrity of its own allies and trading partners, then it's just China with less cheap shit to sell. Hell, even China doesn't do the last one (offer not valid in Taiwan).

The executive branch also appoints people to hundreds of positions (with approval of the Senate). Federal judges in particular have lifetime terms per the Constitution. This is absolutely a generational mess.

If there's a super majority Congress can just impeach them. I'm sure they've all done something worthy of it.

If the Dems gain full control of the House and Senate, and if they have the collective will to start a mass impeachment campaign and weather the political fallout, then yes, they could remove a lot of Trump appointees. But given the state of American politics, I am not optimistic about either of those things happening.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah, it's not at all likely, but it's possible

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If they decide to man up and get shit done, then they will get it done.

It is not and never has been a question of whether they can. It's a question of whether they want to.

Democrats aren't weak. They actively work towards limp, useless results. They strategically use their power to appear weak and useless, on purpose. They're sort of like sloth demons.

There's also the fact that there's an enormous machine of conservative think tanks and funding groups and PACs and corporations that will fight every and any change tooth and nail. The obvious ones like abolishing ICE? They're an enormous source of revenue for dozens of companies, from tech to defense, not to mention that private prison companies are running the concentration camps. They'd need to be ready to effectively run things as a true dictator in order to get anything done, because large portions of the economic sphere have been retooled to rely on things continuing the way they are.
