if you think that the us has no interest in the geopolitical situation in Iran you are mistaken. Even if Israel wouldn't exist there would be oil.
Also trump isn't interested in human rights and regime change in Iran, he wants somebody they can control.
Also trump doesn't call the shots obviously. The people hiding behind the orange are.
Oil is last century's energy source. China has shown the solar path forward. It's just that the US petro/auto-oligarchy cannot fathom any kind of transition.
Trump is not directly controlled by anyone. There's nobody behind the curtain. He's a narcissist being manipulated by Netanyahu (and Putin, and Orban and any other autocrat he looks up to), and who has surrounded himself with a court of amoral grifters with conflicting agendas. He does shit like this not because he has a plan but because it gives him a high, it makes him feel powerful and them he gets bored again.
I disagree with you about a group of people steering trump (as best they can). But hey, we will never know.
And yes, I agree that he has a personality disorder and does shit by himself but the grand scheme like taken the right steps to dismantle the democracy and checks and balances is above his competence level IMHO.
Regarding oil: it doesn't matter if the us haven't seen the light. It is still important to them now and will be for the foreseeable future. Right now there is a demand.
