There's a part of me that wants to believe that Trump is basically a double agent meant to be so blatantly corrupt and awful, taking advantage of every system in the US, that it finally wakes the US up and to realize how fucking awful everything actually is, almost like penetration testing.

In his first term I liked to think that he was actually Andy Kaufman in a fat suit. That he'd faked his death and this was his Gesamtkunstwerk.

It would have been legitimately on brand, and as a punchline being "humanity is fucking stupid you're all fucked," would be hysterical.

Alas...
