We are not our government. Just like the people of Iran are not their government. Being in a country that has resources does not exempt you from being subject to shitty leaders.

The people in Iran haven't had 300 years of democracy leading to this point. Yes, you aren't your government, however they DO very much represent you. And they still are...

Oh they had democracy for a couple of years and then the UK couped against Mossadegh :)

The UK and USA. The CIA was central to the project.

We are not our government

You say that, but what is anyone actually doing to get him out of office??

If you're not actively working against it you're complicit in my book.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The people specifically elected and appointed to hold him responsible to his oaths of office have abdicated their duty.

Many of the rest of us are busy being shot, arrested, and/or deported about it.

Yeah but the guy has trashed the global economy, dismantled your institutions, marched you into another shitshow of a war, killed citizens on US soil, protected paedophiles, etc etc and aside from the odd protest most of you are doing fuck all about it.

You're basically Vichy France. Complicit.

What are the crimes against humanity committed by the Iranian government? There's no "they're like us", no one is/has been like America and their crimes besides the old Western powers it replaced, like France and the UK. And if you're talking about their internal issues, that actually caused the death of many innocents (and some paid actors), I ask you: you do understand that, just like in many countries over the world, America has tried to psyop, destabilise and coup the country for decades, inflicting maximum punishment with harsh economic sanctions, right? You know how easy it is to lead a country while you're being choked by the world's rapists?

No, man, get it together. At least a third of Americans voted for and approved of Donald Trump, but even more so approve of American imperialism as Obama has record drone kills and Biden was chummy af with Israel. Idk what the percentage of "third party voters" is in America but they could be the only to classify as "different from their leadership". Open your eyes, your country has fucked everyone outside of it against their wills, literally and metaphorically, and that's not because you're being mind controlled by a group of amoral foreigners but because it's in the country's ethos and the American mind just cares about material benefit (this is why we can't just say "hey, innocents are dying because of the American military, that should stop", we have to convince them with the price of oil and other things like that)... Trump is just a very ugly mirror to the country's actual values, and if you truly are against all of it you're as rare as a needle in a haystack.

Oh No, won't someone think of how hard the leaders of Iran have it? They are practically forced to execute their entire left wing after the revolution, institute a gender apartheid and shoot children during protests. Man, I really feel for them. One must really feel for them and not their fucking populace that gets ground up between a theocratic dictatorship and the imperialist war machine. But wait, no, all those protests are just paid actors. Like really, all of them are just paid off shills, they all deserve to die.

No really, the guys writing treatises about how raping children you """"married"""" is a okay are actually good because they no have epsteen.

Because standing up to the US means we must uncritically praise and run defense for anyone opposed to them. No matter who they are.
