https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jerboa ?
Yes, but: if you use the app, they now feature a dialog telling you that Google forces developers to register and send over personal data for their identification. The jerboa devs say they won’t do it, so it’s just a matter of time until the app gets pulled from the play store by Google.
For accuracy, it will stay on the store. Devices that are "certified" will be unable to find it on the store or install it via the store.
As a result I think the devs will stop pushing it there, but it will still be there for devices that Google isn't worried about.
I'm a bit confused on how that's supposed to be the case. All apps on the play store already have to be signed with developer credentials. This won't change with the new requirements, those impact apps outside the play store. I don't think it's possible to push "uncertified" apps onto Google Play. So what am I missing here?
What you're missing is an extra certification step. Previously all Google wanted was some cash and a bare minimum of "who you are." Now Google wants birth certificates and ID images. All stuff I never had to do when I put apps on the app store years ago.
