Framework announced the Framework 13 Pro including full Linux support right from the beginning.

Some quick information about the Device:

  • will use Intel Core Ultra 300 (Panther-Lake)
  • updated Battery Design with (up to) 20h Battery life
  • custom designed Display Panel with Touch support (keeping the 3:2 aspect ratio)
  • LPCAMM2 for upgradable/replacable RAM without compromising on Speed/Low Power of LPDDR5X
  • milled Aluminium Unibody chassis
  • Full Linux support right from the start (including Firmware update via LVFS, Fingerprint Reader, etc.)
  • Haptic Touchpad
  • and all the repairability features Framework is known for

You can watch their YouTube Video for a quick summary:

I was looking for a new laptop to replace my old Lenovo Yoga 370 and initially disregarded the Framework 13 because of some downsides (low Battery Life, bad Camera, etc.) and was looking to go with one of the following devices:

  • HP Elitebook X g1a
  • the new Dell XPS 14
  • Asus Expertbook PM5 G2

or also a MacBook pro. I am using Linux since more then 10 years and never touched MacOS at all. So I was not sure if MacOS would work for me. But this announcement made it easy: It will be a Framework 13 Pro with Intel X7 358H!

tl;dr

  • CNC aluminum Chassis (matte black)
  • 74wh battery
  • wildly-efficient Panther Lake chips
  • Ubuntu available pre-installed
  • 20hr. battery life.

Another interesting bit from the presentation: Framework revenue is steadily-growing, in a market where many consumer OEMs may not exist much longer due to AI scams and razor thin profit margins. Maybe they can see the writing on the wall and pivot into this "niche" market as well? Increased revenue is allowing them to invest more in development, including the first custom-made display explicitly for Framework devices.

Overall excellent advancements, and a promising future for the company, despite market conditions.

Here comes the Nazi Bar analogies.

Now everyone posting in this thread which promotes Framework has become a Nazi by the transitive property of Nazihood. Now your family are Nazis with Nazi pets who eat from a pet store that is run by a Nazi (on account of supporting Nazis by selling them pet food, you see) that banks at a Nazi bank in a Nazi financial system run by a Nazi country on a Nazi planet.

...and just like that, every person and thing in the world has become a Nazi. Thanks a lot FRAMEWORK, if only we'd listened to the toxic trolls and avoided being associated with any person on the off chance that we'd catch their 4th person inherited nazihood.

/s, obviously.

Acting self-righteous and outraged feels good.

Some people haven't learned that this doesn't mean that it is good.

I hope you both receive the help you obviously need, you two snowflakes.
