The multi-deck vessel, named Nord and valued at over $500 million, completed its journey through the commercially vital strait after maintenance in Dubai.

“The American side also raised no questions regarding the yacht’s movement, as it did not call at Iranian ports"

There's no story here. The US blockade applies to ships going to/from Iranian ports, not everything passing through the strait.

Blow it up anyway. That yacht was paid for in human misery.

[–] J92@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Impounded and used to fund Ukraine seems like a more pointed use of it. Plus blowing it up just pollutes the ocean.

Well, all right, party-pooper. We were all looking forward to blowing up some billionaire toys.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Absolutely. Just has nothing to do with the blockade and I don't think it's good journalism to pretend otherwise.

There's WW3 going on, and this guy knows that he's part of that tiny sliver of humanity that sails above all of that, and he can just cruise right on through, and both sides will kneel for him.

He should have been sunk just for that arrogance alone.

Maybe someone has a spare SeaBaby that can (gently) fall off of a truck and into the water 2000-ish miles from Ukraine for a special adventure.

What about it though? I don't see any indication that it was at an Iranian port but maybe I'm missing something.

Staring at this trying to figure out where the straight went. Took an embarrassingly long moment to figure out the water is the white bit and not the grey-blue.

Yeah, it's always an adjustment when I haven't looked at MarineTraffic in a while and decide to check in on the boats.

I wasn’t trying to argue with anything, just bring some context to the discussion lol

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fair enough, didn't know if there was something in particular that had caught your eye in there.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

I just find it fashinating that some people’s boats have Wikipedia pages and figured I might as well share it.

The multi-deck vessel, named Nord and valued at over $500 million

Still crazy to think drop $500 million on a yacht without a care like it was an Iphone or something.
