This is one of my favorite musical and creative genres across my life, but I'm having trouble finding an example across the FV that I can access. Anybody know if there is such a community?

To ramble on-- it just crushes me that SO much friggen' awesome & original song content appears across these two major niches, yet on radio and everywhere (it seems to me) we just hear the same old dumbed-down, formulaic bullshit. Me? Even as a cynical old man, I have absolute love for young peoples' creativity upon such things. And there really ARE such crushingly fun / excellent tunes out there to enjoy. Couple examples:

John Cale - How We See The Light:

Tessa Violet - Nancy Sinatra:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQyFFTh_YGc

Vendredi sur Mer (Charline Mignot) - Écoute chérie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhqUMFj51X0

To me, these are brilliant, young* creators absolutely kicking booty, and yet we barely hear of them. Why is that...?

* Haha, John, you're still young to ME!

EDIT : Ehhh... couple more I'll post in the comments. What think, amigos..?

Ohhh man! I just love John Cale..

Thank for the reminder, it's been a while since I pulled up any of his work. Have you listened to the album he did with Brian Eno - Wrong Way Up?

It's one of my faves.

Ah, which one was that? To me, they're both madmen in the most delightful way (lol), but some of their stuff is just... is just... no thank you?

Released in 1990. Solid LP, actually quite accessible if am gonna be honest about it. There was a reissue some years back with two extra songs which were rather weak and listening to them, I understand why they didn't make the cut when the album first came out.

Here's a youtube link to the original.

Lay My Love is pretty salient today. Pure poetry.

Thank you for taking the time. <3

As I write this, I'm somehow listening to and loving Paul's McCartney's "Ram On"

(possibibbles a bit of irony there?)

Oh, but if you mean this one, maybe?

Oh shit, that's one of those songs that lays excellent groundwork, and yet never actually goes anywhere. The Human League's "Mirror Man" is another classic example..!

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Oh my.. Human League. You're dragging me back to my late teens now. Yaah, wasn't a big fan of this band. Seemed a bit whiffy and it was all whiff for a lot of the bands on the charts then so they were extra whiff. LOL!

I got hooked on the grittier New York scene - Blondie, The Ramones, Jim Carroll Band, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, The Nails.. Still have much of it on vinyl.

Geez, I gotta do something with it at some point.

Oh, man-- how about some Karaoke, mein Freund!
It is so much fun! <3

I'd try it but I have a tin ear! LOL!

Can do a banging Sinatra version of songs as I flatten everything when I sing!

P.S. putting up links to Modern Romans by The Call on the AlternativeNation comm.
