MODERATORS

The threadiverse is small (compared to other major platforms) and I often see usernames that I recognize. How well do we notice each other around here?

I'll start... my name's "MrShankles" and I do be commenting/posting from time to time

I tag folks based off interactions, so after a couple years on here there's a lot of names I recognize. Most of them are regular posters or admins (Pugjesus, Stametz, Violet08, Mrdown, Picard Manuver, Geneva Convenience, ada, db0, etc. who don't need to be bothered with tags) or people who I have a special friendship with like @AntiBullyRanger (I really hope you're doin' okay) or my legit bro @toynbee@piefed.social

Then theres various regular commentators on my NSFW posts like @StrangeBedfellow@lemmynsfw.com and @Keepthoseeyeslockedonmine@kinkycats.org who I appreciate a ton!

(Personally, I was once asked out of the blue by @WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today to give my opinion in a discussion about battery tech. I think at the end this will probably be where I consider my life to have peaked.)

I mostly recognize you for consistently having pretty good takes even when most of the thread isn't

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Actually there is one user I appreciate seeing around that I didn't see mentioned anywhere here. Toomanypancakes is delightful

Lol thank you, it for sure hasn't made me the most popular person but at the very least it's not boring.

I can't believe I didn't get you on the list. You're great! I can't remember exactly why I tagged you as "lesbOG" but it's pretty funny. Or at least, I think it's funny. And really, what else could possibly matter?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeahhhhh people on here sometimes behave in ways I'm going to be charitable and describe as contentious or particularly emotionally committed. Like all the internet as a whole has had that problem since I was a kid browsing forums, but it's certainly sometimes a bit much here.

And I absolutely love that tag lol

Aaaand, I remember you too for a certain style. How did your uh...rather colorful descriptions work out for you?

@WorldsDumbestMan very well thanks. I like to say what I see and I like to paint a picture with words. I'm not trying to be pretentious or anything, just express myself.

I hope you're good too!

RuhRoh I just did those too lol. Pings for everyone!

Also Toy if u are responsible for the tiles and have been holding out I will be so mad

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah, but a few years after I chose this username I was walking around Philadelphia and randomly saw one in the street. Basically no one who's part of my offline life uses that name so it was weird to encounter unexpectedly.

That the name is referencing the tiles is usually people's first guess, but I chose this long before I'd heard of them. When the 2001 X-Men movie came out I was looking for a new username. In the movie they just show the character Toad in his villainous role, but in the novelization they cover more of his life, including his secret identity of Mortimer Toynbee. I liked it and adopted it. It's almost never taken anywhere, either, which is nice.

I didn't expect to show up in this thread at all, let alone multiple times. It's nice to know I've made an impression!

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Toynbee

The name sticks out because it's so uncommon and I've always loved Bradbury, though I wouldn't consider this particular story to be one of my favorites.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Fascinating - I believe I've heard of the story, but never read it or any summaries of it.

Based on the referenced historian, perhaps I am that traveler, as this was many years before I was born.

But it cannot be, for I would never voluntarily allow it to be capitalized ...

[–] tal@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess it's like a pat on the head for being considered notable, so probably as long as there aren't too many, they'll be tolerant. :-) Probably.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Well at least one person on that list thinks I'm an open nazi so... Probably I should have rethought the tags. But ah well I'm tipsy lets go.

I don't want to overly directly call someone out/incite brigading/etc. but I probably should have been more clear given I do tend to irk people. Hilariously though I'm not talking about the person who downvoted me (sorry @mrdown@lemmy.dbzer0.com, I completely forgot we got into it recently, I did not mean you)
