The threadiverse is small (compared to other major platforms) and I often see usernames that I recognize. How well do we notice each other around here?

I'll start... my name's "MrShankles" and I do be commenting/posting from time to time

Thanks, you're right

looks like it's @pmjv@lemmy.world now. That's amazing. If there's one server I'd have thought that stays up no matter what, it's an sdf.org one. When I saw their domain, I recognized it as one of the few that was still running a gopherspace node (gopher://sdf.org), alongside gopher://gopher.floodgap.com

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SDF_Public_Access_Unix_System

Super Dimension Fortress (abbreviated as SDF, also known as freeshell.org) is a non-profit public access UNIX shell provider on the Internet. It has been in continual operation since 1987 as a non-profit social club.

SDF provides free Unix shell access and web hosting to its users. In addition, SDF provides increasingly rare services such as dial-up internet access, and Gopher hosting. SDF is one of very few organizations in the world still actively promoting the gopher protocol,[9][10] an alternate protocol that existed at the introduction of the modern World Wide Web.[11]

yeah, sdf itself is doing fine but sadly their lemmy instance hasn't been well maintained for a while and got completely offline some time ago. though looking at the message on the webpage hopefully they're coming back soon..

i also used to be on @hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org but sadly had to move.

i'm hanging out here for the time being: !neinhole@horp.sciops.net

i haven't made any new communities in the lemmyverse, as i keep hoping sdf's lemmy will come back. should it not, well - i don't know yet.

Sdf is an awesome org. Hope the lemmy pops up soon!
