It's herpes simplex 1, the one known for cold sores. Although HSV2, known for genital herpes, has start becoming a cause of cold sores.

Herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) is not EBV (herpesvirus 4 aka HHV-4). Right family, but different virus.

No it’s not, at least not according to Wikipedia.

Epstein-Barr virus is a different herpes virus that causes mono, which is not the same as HSV1 with its cold sores
