Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

MODERATORS

First off, huge thanks again to the mods for approving another post about this. The response to my first one honestly blew me away — a bunch of people reached out, joined up, or just said they’d been looking for something exactly like this. Figured it was worth sharing again for anyone who missed it.

If you’re a gamer over 30 and tired of random matchmaking, toxic comms, or feeling like everyone online is half your age, check out Over 30 Clan.

They’ve been around since 2010 and have grown into a massive multi-platform community with 1,500+ members across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It’s not tied to one game either — people are constantly grouping up for Battlefield 6, Arc Raiders, Overwatch 2, Call of Duty, Destiny, Apex, PUBG, sim racing, and whatever else the community gets hooked on next.

What really makes it different is the vibe. It’s adults with jobs, families, responsibilities, etc. who still love gaming and just want solid teammates, good comms, and a drama-free place to hang out.

There are weekly events, organized game nights, podcasts, giveaways, and a really active sim racing crew that’s wrapping up another iRacing season right now. You’ll pretty much always find people online doing something.

I’ve been there over 6 years now, and it genuinely became my online home. Finding an active gaming community that’s this welcoming and low-stress is way harder than it should be.

If it sounds like your kind of thing, applications are on the website:

👉 Over 30 Clan

Hope some more of you find a good gaming crew like I did. 🍻

I am also not convinced that excited hyena furries of either gender signify "chill".

There's a local discord server for my city that was set up by users/mods of the subreddit for my city, and I joined a few years ago before I quit reddit.

It fucking sucks. Everyone just going on about random bullshit that doesn't even matter, but anytime I try to say something and bring attention to a local issue, I get fucking ignored or downright disagreed with like there really are no problems around here.

Also, it's a very mixed group of ages. You have adults in their 40s-60s messaging with literal teenagers who are still in high school, and actively messaging in the discord while they're at school most days. So you have adults talking with teens as if their equal peers on issues that adults should no longer concern themselves with; but I shouldn't be surprised when the Midwest produces exclusively "adult children" who still think the world works like social circles work in high school.

One of the men on the server, who's discord bio personally claims he's a furry and says he's in his late 30s-early 40s, is constantly talking to the younger users and it just gives me a bad feeling each time I see it. But I can't call them on it, because it's one big clique, and it fucking sucks.

It kind of sounds like they're all having a good time hanging out with each other, and you're frustrated that they're not responding to your attempts at getting attention.

A couple weeks ago I posted about being careful driving down a certain major street in the city because there were some very reckless drivers going up and down it. Doing shit like swerving between traffic through the smallest possible gaps, riding bumper to bumper, illegal u-turns (I actually witnessed them come to a red light, turn right onto the cross street, immediately pull a u-turn, then turn right again back onto the street we were originally on) and going like 60 in a 40 zone. I even called the cops because it was absolutely ridiculous.

On the discord people either ignored it, or were completely dismissive of it saying things like "well don't drive there if people are going to be idiots."

Americans and their idea that adults must never interact with younger people is fucking weird

It just gives me the ick when a self-proclaimed furry/fedora wearer is constantly talking to teenagers on a message board about how their day was at school.

Because that's literally what the conversations are. I'm sure it's not as bad as it is in my head, but don't go around literally calling yourself a furry and fedora guy, then talk to minors as if they're equal peers that understand how the world works.

That does really sound like grooming. Never ignore your instincts, I learned that one the hard way.
