I’m so fucking sick of hearing about this guy, both from people who hate him and people who love him.

Either he wins or he doesn’t. I don’t live in Maine, I have no input on the matter. His main opponent dropped out so he probably will.

If he wins, I hope he supports the policies he claims to. I don’t live in Maine, so I have no influence on whether he does or doesn’t

Thank you, I almost spelled it that way but decided against it lmao

yeah would really love to further increase military spending! Really hopes he gets in to do that progressive promise!

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

it's not about the race per se, it's about whether nazi blackwater mercenaries who say they oppose arming israel are acceptable to "the left"

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is crazy how he went from some guy I maybe heard a streamer mention like once to one of the most talked about candidates in the entire internet left-sphere.

Like I recall subs I'm on having whole struggle sessions about this dude and I was just like "idk how the fuck this even is".

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

it would go away instantly if the succ faction of the US left would stop defending him

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Here's the thing, how many of us live in Maine? Not enough to swing the election either way I'm sure. Whether he gets condemned or defended literally affects nothing to Jack shit.

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (31 children)

That's not what is relevant about him. Discussing any electoralism anywhere in this country is a waste of time for everyone invovled. The reason why he's worth discussing is because it outs closet nazis and chauvinists. Anyone who defends Platner and says stuff like "I don't care what he thinks, as long as he votes for healthcare!" can be placed on a list for re-education or wall after the revolution. Discussing him is helpful in left spaces for identifying those in need of education and bullying. Every person defending him would vote for Hitler. He's a literal litmus test for identifying AOCIA types and social fascists.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

This is the one good thing about his campaign tbh. All these radlibs showing their true colors to defend him.

And yet the western left doesn't spend 2 seconds before condemning Hamas.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I have never condemned Hamas so please leave me alone.

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Many on this site did. People who are now mods called Hamas and Hezbollah fascist on October 1, 2023. They were upvoted and the person they argued against was permanent banned.

In addition, people who have defended Mamdani, AOC, Platner and Sanders and electoralism generally remain a large part of the userbase who only sour long after the obvious occurs.

https://hexbear.net/post/6442067

Just search Mamdani or Fetterman or Platner in search, sort by old, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Originally these people were popular to mildly controversial and anybody calling them out was seen as a "crank".

There was contentious threads on Platner on this site with struggle session rainbow lines and hundreds of comments. People arguing seriously that he didn’t know about the Nazi tattoo he got in Croatia.

Are we going to look inwards about this type of chauvinistic behavior? Can we reflect or just continue being smug and pretending we were always correct and didn’t repeatedly ban and ostracize the people who were actually correct.

[–] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But I will never let the overwhelming majority of the western left and progressive liberals forget this.

I mean, he's a Maine character

[–] ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I really don't care what his personal beliefs are. His internal monologue could be non-stop hitler quotes for all i care - if he only votes for progressive policies and doesn't do fascist things, whatever goes on in his head or whatever he has done in his past is his business. He'd be doing something to impede fascism, and that's good. Is it sus? Yes. But I dont need to be his friend. I also don't live in maine. I just need him to take the right actions.

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 32 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

this is just lazy nazi apologia. you are selling your soul for electoralism, ie nothing. If you're going to compromise your morals, why not do it for something actually effective instead of AOCIA 3.0

[–] ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Nope. Because I don't think the democratic party is going to be effective. But if this guy is going to do progressive things that make even a marginal impact, but has sketchy vibes, I will take that over the ultra-corpratist establishment dem he was running against. If it turns out that he's fetterman 2, well that's bad. But if you believe electoralism is ineffective, then it doesnt really matter either way.

To the extent that electoralism is effective, which isn't much, the lesser of 2 evils is still the right choice. So I'd rather see platner than a republican because, per what he's said he will do, it is a better outcome.

I do not see voting as compromising morals in any way. Voting is 100% harm reduction and a defense against encroaching fascism. It is not very effective in general, but it is something. And it is obviously not a substitute for direct action, organizing, donating, etc. for effective socialist orgs/causes

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nazi apologia for a war criminal child murderer. You are becoming scum for no reason, you realize that right? You are lowering yourself to nazism for a 0% at healthcare lmao. It's so pathetic.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ok well by that logic you want the ultra-Zionist to win and anti-zionism to be discredited as a campaign strategy. Two can play the righteous moralism game

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (10 children)

Oh hey look it’s one of the Platner defenders!

https://hexbear.net/modlog?commentId=6605763

You've had comments removed for doing exactly what you are doing now, downplaying Nazism and sporting nazi tattoos, yet you keep doing it. Zioran dead-ender social fascist. Having Marx in your name is a fucking joke, you should change it to Bernard.

Voting is 100% harm reduction and a defense against encroaching fascism.

Just friendly reminder this is a thread about a Nazi tattoo haver who was bodyguard at the fucking Abu-Ghraib and doesn't even pretend to be repentant about it.

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

There is no evil too great for Democrats to claim is the 'lesser evil'. There is no bottom, there is no floor. The dead-end Liberal "harm reduction" shit always results in this race to the bottom of depravity, it's a fundamentally bad political analysis that keeps being endlessly entertained by the western left.
