The company i work at is currently implementing such a solution.
Complete unnecessary facial scan, it was fingerprint previously and the reader still accepts the same fingerprints as of now.
In addition we're going to get a phone app that tracks whatever we have logged on for our shift and if not then our location and sends us a notification.
From the production managers perspective, it fully automates working hours calculation, though he has to approve any shift change manually.
From our perspective, it's supposed to notify us automatically if there isn't enough work for third(night) shift and notifies us that we don't have to come. Though we do still get paid for it. Good EU workers protection laws.
Personally I'm rather on the fence about it. I'm most definitely going to refuse the facial scan on the basis that fingerprint works as well and anything more is unnecessary. Though still thinking a good reason to refuse the mobile app and tracking part.
If they want to track you on a mobile app, they can provide you with a work phone. They probably can't force you to use your personal device. I just tell them that my phone can't install apps (because I've lobotomised it). They've worked around me.
Good idea, i totally forgot that angle and that would most likely work as well. Tbf i have a rather unpopular phone so it wouldn't even be that unbelievable that the app doesn't work.
Thank you.
I think the fingerprint scan is less invasive because the face scan is passive and it seems like thats what is being implemented at a national level by flock cameras and the like.
Yeah pretty much, there's no reason to add my face into any facial recognition database in the current climate of more authoritarian levels of surveillance and with minimal trust that this data will not be sold to the highest bidder.
And before anyone asks, no i don't have any social media where i upload pictures of myself. Of course I'm probably on some pictures on the background, but at least I'm doing all i can do avoid it.
