cross-posted from: https://piefed.world/c/tech/p/1194750/nyc-amazon-driver-fired-over-pro-union-tiktoks

An Amazon driver from Queens posted frequent TikToks documenting her life on the job without incident — until she started speaking up in favor of a City Council bill that Amazon opposes.

Does this not count as union busting?

Depends on who has the better lawyer.

The problem here is any corporation will find an excuse to fire anyone. A lawsuit could point to the timing here.

Not when the company in question pays to make a movie about the presidents wife.

Gotta prove that she was fired directly for that. The main problem is that a lot of states (most of them) are ~~"right to work states"~~ "at will employment states" meaning you can be fired at any time for any reason or no reason so long as the reason isn't illegal. If there is no paper trail to prove that she was fired for the pro-union Tik Tok and she wasn't "discriminated against" legally (with proof of that) then they are free and clear.

Which fucking sucks because honestly most tech companies need a union at this point, and Amazon's one of the worst offenders for this type of thing. This isn't the first time nor will it likely be the last time that people will be fired for what is basically union busting with very little legal recourse.
