So I had my Uncle over for a week. Because he lives so far away we rarely get to see him, so seeing him after five years was something. His one week visit definitely would've been nicer had it not been for his reactionary views.

does anyone else here block their family members or have friends or family member that have blocked other relatives? I have a cousin who's done this; for context, and I don't know if this is okay to share, but he's married to a trans person. Unfortunately some transphobic relatives constantly misgender his spouse with my reactionary uncle saying his pronouns are "political labels".

In response to people misgendering him and generally not accepting him for who he is, he and his spouse blocked them and from my understanding have gone no-contact with these people. I don't blame them, I mean how do you have a good relationship with these people when all they want to do is misgender you or your partner? You can't talk to these transphobic relatives, so what else can you do besides going no-contact with them?

Yeah I don't talk to 90% of my extended family because they are all christo-fascists. I barely even talk to my parents because it feels like talking to children who might get upset if I challenge their world view in the slightest.

I've been no-contact with family for over a decade at this point. It's weird sometimes not having the social safety network that a lot of people have access to. But I don't regret it at all.

I know people that can smooth over shit like that but I'm not one of them. Life is too short and I'd also rather die.

i just don't talk to them and I never see them. I killed off facebook some 15 years ago or so in no small part because i cannot stand my redneck ignorant family and their ignorant views on politics and their religious crap.

we don't have family reunions, i dont go to weddings or virtually any funerals, i just don't see or interact with them in any way really. my life is better for it overall.
