Please familiarize yourself with them

2) All posts must end with a '?'This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?

5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions. If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.

6) No US Politics.

I've noticed that there seems to be an emphasis on being extremely serious at all times, as if every single comment is a PhD dissertation being evaluated or something. There's like this weird, subtle one upmanship about every little thing and a lot of people are very nitpicky and judgmental. It kind of takes the fun out of being on here, TBH. Or am I the only one experiencing this?

Say anything bad about vegan even jokingly and you're guaranteed to be downvoted.

What bad things can one say about vegans?

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 2 points 1 day ago

brigading and extensive use of sockpuppet accounts to suppress things they don't like.

spread unfounded claims about saturated fat and animal protein

diluting the literature with weak epidemiology and making logically fallacious claims of consensus is truth, not to mention paper count isn't consensus

no tolerance of apostates who used to follow the diet and now do better on a different diet

wont engage in good faith in discussions about nutrition and health: what-about-isms, appeals to authority, citation bombing, citation bluffing, extensive goal post moving (even if x is healthy, what about y)

a very aggressive segment of their supporters has given them a bad name

That they talk too much about being vegans is a big complaint.

[–] placebo@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I only see non-vegans talking about vegans on the internet - just like in this case.

I haven't seen it never, but it doesn't seem as bad as people say. IRL I never tell people I'm veg just to undercut the steriotype. People finding out a couple years into knowing me never seems to earn any brownie points, which says something.

I have noticed vegans seem more fine with me when they think I'm a carnist, which says something about them.
