I think it's just annoyance at the idiomatic use of "America" when the discussion is about the Americas.
Huh, never considered that.
It's hard to get into the minds of a sea of semi-anonymous voters to determine their motivations. I'm sure they all had their own reasons, and yours may be one of them.
The minds of the sea of semi-anonymous lemmings is likely hard to understand due to endemic parochialism in the USA.
I don't think that's part of why I can't read anyone's mind, but okay.
Well it's a fairly common discussion on Lemmy, Reddit, microblogging, etc., that "America" as the USA doesn't float well outside of the USA.
Some corners of Lemmy that I haven't seen maybe, but over my decade+ of Reddit I've never seen anyone present that as an issue.
I acknowledge it's a bit lame that only a specific part of North America calls themselves "American," but I doubt inaccurate and exclusionary endonyms are a phenomenon unique to the US.
