The consequence in this instance for being a neo-Nazi piece of shit was getting punched and thrown.

Sorry I mean what are the consequences for someone who would hypothetically want to throw hands with a Nazi pos? Not saying I would, but you know, if I find myself in this situation, is someone going to give me a hard time?

You might get charged with battery. No matter how morally correct, it's a transgression against the state's monopoly on violence and the state will want to crack down on that.

But it'll still be the right thing to do.

Depends on if you get caught and if the cops are around. If there isn't police close by you probably can get away with it especially if you're concealing your identity and nobody snitches on you.

You might also get shot doing it but that's a risk you take brawling in the USA with fascist pigs.

Regardless of the circumstances and how morally correct the stance of punching or otherwise ... eliminating ... Nazis is the law is clear that this is illegal.
