Were the respective fathers or anyone in the room when these babies were born?
As a father of 3, I can recall in detail what each of my children looked like at birth and could even pick them out in the nursery and NICU.
The fact no one even bothered to look let alone remember what they looked like at birth irks me to no end.
Dad's used to smoke a cigar in the other room until the child turned ten or needed to be hit
If they're 38, that makes them born around 1988 and their parents firmly in GenX (1965-1980) territory.
Yes, Boomers did that dumb shit, but Xer Men in general were 'Metrosexuals', taking on tasks at home originally only designated for wives and genuinely tried to parent.
As an Xer myself whose kids are nearly 25, I call bullsht on that lame excuse. They sound like shitty parents on both sides.
Things move slower in different places, I'm betting 38 years ago in North Dakota dudes were not metro sexual, a term which by the way came out in the mid 2000s to describe men who groomed themselves.
I see your point, but imagine anyone you know who was ten years older than you and from a more rural area.
I don’t know about the US, but the parents of my peers (East Germany) recalled that the fathers were actively discouraged to enter the delivery room.
I have family in Frankfurt und Bad Hersfeld, Germany who will absolutely agree with you, but this happened in the USA.
These guys were born in 1988, a time when movies like Mrs. Doubtfire and Tootsie and and and were showing how men can be different; to be better. The lines between parental jobs were absolutely in the process of being blurred and their Dads were either idiots or unavailable.
