While it broods over China’s economic, military and technical advance, the Trump administration is accelerating Beijing’s diplomatic progress, as striking new polling by the Pew Research Center shows. For the first time, China and Xi Jinping are seen more favourably than the US and its president in most of the 36 major countries surveyed – including Canada, Mexico and Australia. Only in six countries did people rate the US more highly.

While Beijing has seen significant improvements in some places, the slump in Washington’s standing is more dramatic. Across 20 countries, the median percentage with a favourable view of China rose from 32% to 46% between 2023 and this year; for the US, it fell from 58% to 36%.

It's sad to see how many people think you should just pivot from relying on the US to China instead. Just because you can trade with them reliability.

China is a genocidal dictatorship with world domination ambitions. Their influence must be limited to an absolute minimum for world stability.

You don't understand, my empire is better than your empire! Your empire is an imperialist nation state!

China is a genocidal dictatorship with world domination ambitions.

That's only if you fabricate the genocide, ignore their actial political mechanisms, and randomly make shit up without any factual basis. The scary sinophobic propaganda isn't actually real, it's just racism.
Meanwhile the UK is actively facilitating the most widely publicised genocide ever, has made opposition to said genocide illegal, and is currently involved in 3 wars on 2 continents, neither of which is Europe. The rest of NATO and America has similar current situations, and track records that make their current ambitions seem positively milquetoast. It's painfully obvious that you're just projecting the failures of the west onto it's enemies like a good little McCarthyist.

Nice whataboutism. Evil is evil, doesn't matter who does it. E.g. what Israel is doing in Gaza with support of the US is equally bad.

What China does to the Uyghurs and in Tibet is genocide. Ignorance doesn't change it.

What do they do? Exactly? I assume you're speaking with some sort of evidence of their alleged infractions, actual evidence with photos that I can personally look at like I can for the Gaza genocide, or the holocaust, or even the 100 year old Armenian genocide? Or do you just have the usual vague handwave that they're totally doing genocide by enshrining their minority's rights in law?

I'm not sure why I continue to argue in good faith, but anyway. The UN doesn't use the word genocide, but they have found violations that fall on the scale.

https://digitallibrary.un.org/record/3985699?v=pdf

That'll be all. I've got better things to do.

Did you bother reading the report? It's literally all speculation, with photographic evidence such as "they built a prison" and "something happened to a remote mosque". You are minimising real genocides by speculating that China is somehow committing a genocide that nobody is able to actually evidence.

That's nowhere near the level of Evil that America has activelly supported in Gaza.

(Basically, it's forcefully integrating Uyghurs and erasing their culture vs widespread violent state sanctioned racism, mass murdering hundreds of thousands along ethnic lines and activelly targetting and murdering children)

Were you trying to make the case that people supporting China over America is supporting the Lesser Evil?

Because, if you were, well done!

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

So far the Chinese imperial ambitions and mass murder headcount are nowhere near the level of America's.

So in the context of what this article is exposing, the "China Bad" talk, even putting aside the sources of most to that "information" (mainly American and British sources) and hence how trustworthy those sources are on that subject, and treating it as the perfect unbelished truth, makes zero difference because per the article itself people don't think that China is wonderful, they think that America is shit, which is indisputable, especially in light of all the shit going on in Iran and Gaza as well as inside the US itself.

Yeah, it is the mentality that was used for Russia as well, and look what that brought us.
