Eggs shouldn't be kept in the fridge at all. They are also not in the cooled section of the store. Why do people put them in the fridge for no reason.

Eggs in America must be refrigerated and are sold in the cold section of the stores.

Because, in their infinite wisdom, they wash off the protective layer from the egg shell.

Tbf, Idk if I'd wanna feel a protective layer over my egg

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Are you eating the shell of the egg?

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 14 points 3 weeks ago

They last about two weeks longer when refrigerated. I wasn't eating a dozen eggs quickly enough, which is why I refrigerated them.

I've seen Finnish food-safety officials say that it doesn't matter much if they're in the fridge or not, but their temperature shouldn't change too variably too often or something. So fridge door maybe not the best location.

But outside the fridge is colder than inside the fridge in Finland.

Unless you leave the fridge door open for extended periods of time, they shouldn't really heat up from just opening the door and closing it. They have some thermal mass of their own

Cold temperatures lower metabolic activity.

In Germany there is a printed date after which refrigating is recommended.
