Hey now, don’t call them eggs, let them come to the conclusion of transition on their own.

Also, in the fridge.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago

However, the fridge slows down biological activity so it may take them longer to reach the conclusion

Eggs should be kept in the back of the fridge. Constant temperature changes reduce freshness.

Put them with the plebs

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

I feel like making a joke about the eggs wanting to be treated like royalty and the rest of the produce voting them to that position against they’re self interest. But I can’t quite crack the right wording.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago

If I keep them at the back of the fridge they'll freeze onto the back wall so that sounds worse.

I only move eggs into the door if I can be bothered or run out of space to keep the box on a shelf and have never noticed a difference - I wonder if you've noticed this yourself or are just repeating advice? I don't really see how changes in temperature are likely to affect anything.

I have chickens. My eggs are on the counter.

Balcony seats still.

[–] CyberChicken@whatcom.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

I have chickens. My eggs are scattered around the back yard.

Eggs shouldn't be kept in the fridge at all. They are also not in the cooled section of the store. Why do people put them in the fridge for no reason.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Eggs in America must be refrigerated and are sold in the cold section of the stores.

Because, in their infinite wisdom, they wash off the protective layer from the egg shell.

[–] SupremeDonut@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Tbf, Idk if I'd wanna feel a protective layer over my egg

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Are you eating the shell of the egg?

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 14 points 3 weeks ago

They last about two weeks longer when refrigerated. I wasn't eating a dozen eggs quickly enough, which is why I refrigerated them.

I've seen Finnish food-safety officials say that it doesn't matter much if they're in the fridge or not, but their temperature shouldn't change too variably too often or something. So fridge door maybe not the best location.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

But outside the fridge is colder than inside the fridge in Finland.

Unless you leave the fridge door open for extended periods of time, they shouldn't really heat up from just opening the door and closing it. They have some thermal mass of their own

Cold temperatures lower metabolic activity.

In Germany there is a printed date after which refrigating is recommended.

Next show the butter in their own sealed off chamber just for them.

You mean Eggs watching the rest of the kitchen from their private egg basket. I do not get why people put eggs in the fridge, they last a good amount of time just fine sitting out on the bench.

[–] dadGPT@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

In us eggs are washed which apparently removes the protective layer and hence need to be refrigerated.

[–] anguo@piefed.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, apparently, if eggs are not washed, they last longer on the counter than in the fridge.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I eat them before the go bad either way.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Canara too!

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

How long do they need to last, regardless of where they are? Don't you eat them?

Is it bad somehow to put them in the fridge, even if unnecessary?
