Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it's one of the best things I've ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.

For the past few months I'd been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I'd blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.

Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I'd had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.

The breaking point was seeing some dude post a "meme" implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you're saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell...

I see vast majority in the far right though, swallowing the pill, starting proof is how they vote, the hate for immigration, the normalization of genocide, denying of scientific method , as in flat earthers, anti vaccines, podcasters and youtubers who didn't study shit spreading misinformation as science, etc, trillionares advocating for destroying public services and keep the poor ,poorest, normalization of "coliving' and ultra small habitation as a normal thing, etc. I could keep on with examples whole day long.

you spend too much time on feeding the algorithms. i don't ever see any of that shit, because i'm not interested in it.

if you only listen to crazy people, you will think everyone is crazy because you don't ever talk to normal people, and you probably won't pay attention to them anyway, because they arent' saying crazy shit.

stop living to be upset and offended and you might actually realize how chill the average person is.

You are probably right in most of what you say, the problem is I also see it neighbours, or even friends spilling the garbage.

then move or get new friends.

you don't have the right to tell other people how to live their lives or to make their choices for them.

Well, if they ask my opinion in a converation I will give it to them, and i at the very least can be well concerned if they start venting anti-inmigration crap they heared from the news media.

that's like every relationship i've ever had. i'm not sure where people get these relationships where other people share their opinions in lock step with them.

everyone i know has different feelings on various issues.

Opinions and feelings can lead to acts and have consequences, it is nothing as generic as you seem to say.

No they don't.

actions are not feelings or opinions. people very rarely act on the shit they say.
