I dont even understand the appeal of populating mars. Like its a big red dust bowl. Like shittier than the shittiest desert. Realistically, without some seriously sci fi shit to terraform the place, why would you want to live there? Unless you like being inside for the rest of your life.
I think it's part of our monkey brain, want to expand. Add in the "everything here sucks I could do it better" and you want to go somewhere else. We are out of places to set up on "free land" on earth so to the stars we look

Get out there, do something new, see what you learn
Really long term, Earth is doomed. Not Climate Change, the sun will literally die one day. If humanity is to survive, we need to leave Earth and eventually our solar system
Waiting until the sun is expanding to start working on this problem is a lot like the issues we have with climate change. "Not my problem" type of attitude.
In your defense, the time length between climate change and the death of the sun is beyond massive, but still, it's the same kind of thinking. You don't need to leave Earth today and while people in the future probably will for any number of reasons, so what, let them figure it out, right?
We're humans, this is what we do... we explore. Lets go
