Isn't 35 also too old for the draft?

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 30 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

They increased the max to 42

https://www.goarmy.com/how-to-join/requirements

This is not a draft. Which is like 18-26ish typically.

BUT, that doesn’t mean the draft is fixed at those ages. BUT, I doubt they would ever need to draft up to 42 based on the US population and the willingness of psychos to want to a) kill people or b) get paid to kill people via promises of a better life later as a veteran (Baby killer)

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 25 points 2 weeks ago (35 children)

There's the ones who like to shoot things, but don't forget the c) it's either join the military for pay or live in poverty or worse.

They need a draft once all those Action Hero wannabes get swatted down by Iranian drones and the Canadian troops start rolling in to annex the southern province.

Who knew Fallout would be right about the annexation but wrong about which way it went?

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well awesome for me I reckon, I'll be 44 this Wednesday. 👍

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You're never too old to soak up an FPV drone

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Join the navy so that a single $300 drone can destroy a $50B Trump class battleship

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Give the war 10 years and it'll be a $350 Trillion Trump Class America Drone, and be some janky ass quad copter that burns coal

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well maybe we are getting steampunk after all.....

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Draft age gonna change in any real war.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, they will forcibly recruit anyone they want if their hold on power is seriously threatened

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of war is getting things fixed or moving to the front line fighting. For every battalion fighting there is another fixing cars, doing laundry, cooking, or getting the paperwork in order for all of those. Doctors are just as important to an army as soldiers. None of those jobs is too much for a 35 year old getting 4 years of service in.

Ageist nonsense.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

They used to contact out most of that stuff for us Marines

[–] gandalf_der_13te@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

35 is the new 27

[–] StealthLizardDrop@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Russia entered the chat

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Good thing I'm 35 in a few months.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Except they just changed the enlistment (and by proxy draft) age to 42.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

You and i my friend

[–] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

35 is too young imo, or should be the minimum age

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

Nah we need the military as an option for poor 18yos with no job or education prospects after highschool. Which, despite the declining birthright, is still somehow a growing demographic.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it should be, but 18-24 y/o's are much easier to indoctrinate and radicalize, as well as far more reckless in their tolerance for risky activities.
