It's actually just cheaper to build a screen then all the knobs. It makes economic sense for the company bottom line

I cannot wait for the day we can communicate not only visually and aurally but through our phones with smell. Like send your loved one a flower that bees have been trying and failing to eat. And send to your annoying sibling a bouquet of farts every hour on the hour for their birthday, playing pachelbels Canon and chiming the time in ass like churchbells
