Sounds like something a spy would say.
They need to stop building these suspicious "features" no one asks for. All I want is a big, OLED dumb display that will last for at least 10 years. I don't need or want it to do anything else. Just push pretty pixels across a couple of HDMI ports.
They profit more from selling data than from selling tvs, so they are never going to stop.
You want them to stop selling your data to companies that use it to send you targeted ads?
C'mon, think of the shareholders, you monster.
My LG oled had lots of dead pixel clusters around the edges and horrible burn in in the center after only 5 years. So yeah 10 years is a challenge probably. Never buying LG again.
My 65" B7 from 2017 is still going strong. No dead oleds. Still feels sufficiently bright in my room.
I've heard newer models are significantly brighter and have "better" HDR but I don't see any need to upgrade any time soon.
I also don't really baby it. I've left roughly still scenes up on the screen for 15 - 60 minutes before it automatically went to sleep and no burn in yet thankfully.
I regularly game on it and no burn in of the static elements of the UI.
Edit: I said burn in but I mean image retention.
iirc smart TVs are priced with super low profit margins because the main draw is data harvesting and baked in ads.
Except they don't. Because we keep buying their shit. Our consumer habits could end companies and yet we never actually use that power to further our collective interests.
