Can you remember when StarTrek was (mostly) serious SciFi?

This episode was filled with so many terrible cheesy scenes it could easily have lived without to get the point it was trying to make across. I get why they were in there, soap opera stuff, but all It achieved was making me feel like they're wasting my time. I don't watch that stuff for a reason, why are you making me sit through this?
The second half got a little better as there were less bullshit fillers, but still, I'm not sure that format should have a place in Star Trek. I think all of the other shenanigans of this show have been more than enough already.

Still, overall an enjoyable episode, but definitely one I'll never have the desire to ever watch a second time.
