Well, he had pepper sprayed in his general direction. Given the lack of reaction, I'd say it missed.

Or he was able to power through it. Depending on spice tolerance, some might see it as more of an unpleasant condiment than a weapon. He might have biked a couple blocks away and found a place to cry in peace once the adrenaline wore off.
